I have requested mods to make the thread sticky.. lets see.. This question is asked over and over in the forum, members post their views and then it's lost in history.. and becomes useless.. all the efforts made on that thread are of no use.. when next time some one ask the same question.. discussion starts from the beginning... Its waste of efforts and resources. there are atleast hundred threads with the same title "Joomla VS Drupal" or "Joomla or Drupal"
Who said drupal rocks. I am working for more then month on drupal. They don't have proper guide book even don't have proper solution where as in joomla you will get any solution you like.
A very very thanks to you ... Now I think I should use drupal ... As a developer it would be easy for me and also some names which you mentioned really convinced me
Good comparison, and I think its a pretty fair one. But, I have to disagree with the statement that I quoted. Because of the relaxed attitude on security, joomla should not even be considered a "good" CMS. One of the first requirements is that the system be secure. There are no "what you need", or "what your needs are" or "what system fits your needs" - when your site has been hacked and defaced, your need is to get it back online. Security HAS to be the #1 deciding factor for any content management system. Everything else is secondary. And with that in mind, there is no real comparison between Drupal and Joomla - Drupal is by far the better choice.
You are right at some point.. But requirement of a highly secure CMS is also a requirement. You will have to decide based on the security requirement. High security may not be the requirement for some very simple sites, who have nothing other than some HTML content on their sites. Joomla is not as much secure as Drupal, but than also, not all the Joomla sites are hacked. Drupal is secure, but can not be used for banking sites.. JavaEE platform gives lots of security features but its not the right choice for creating a video sharing site. It all depends on requirement. One should choose the right tool to do the right thing.
Smart comparison! well i personally like Joomla due to its diversified features but after reading whole article got to know many hidden features of Drupal.... Great Sharing
Heard that joomla is for noobies and drupal for experts But in my opinion, if u r n expert then why use the bloat of a CMS afterall? I love joomla and am a firm supporter of the same, have not tried drupal, so will not opine on that Shuchi fortubiz.com cookfoodrecipes.com
I am surprised that nobody here speaks about Dotnetnuke. I have been experimenting with Joomla and I have to say that I think the comment about it being somewhat unorganized is right on. DotNetNuke takes time to come up to speed, but I found it to be very intuitive in how it is configured. Joomla is just plain odd - I still like it, but it is just plain odd. I know nothing about Drupal, but it looks like something I need to look into. Right now here is my score: Joomla - crazy interface. to me it is non intuitive. I think like a programmer, so maybe that is why some seem to prefer drupal too. Very simple to install. complete no brainer. all open source - code, database, etc. PHP based for all the php die hards. Can be put together with pretty much no programming. Has decent functionality built in and lots of extensions available DotNetNuke mine installed by my webhost so i guess that was simple, but have not installed myself. very intuitive setup. page oriented. you need a new page - add one user security roles easy to define and utilize open source development, but needs windows server and usually tied to a MS SQL server .net based - hey face it, Microsoft rules the software world now days - like it or not. .net is not going away can also be put together with no programming decent functionality built in and lots of modules available free and commercial. It does seem to be more commercial than Joomla. Thats my 2 cents (maybe even 2.5)
