Well I have used Joomla for many client's sites. It is good for massive site with lots of content , categories and sub-categories.

It is also good if you are good at custom-coding, you can take joomla and turn into any custom application you want to build.

    Regards,
    Warren

Until and unless you require a custom application, joomla can fit to any kind of website. Check joomla extension directory for all the possible domain type you can make using joomla.

Joomla is a powerful content management system that enables to their users, to create websites and manage content very easy. You don't need a special web hosting for joomla, but you need to know some basic things that your joomla host should offer.

Joomla is capable of doing everything from a community site to a store to a blog to a business site. It is all up to how you set it up and what extensions you use.

joomla allows the feature of any types of content on one glance in one frame.
wordpress shows one entry in the frame as well as header and categories but allows a scrolldown and the seo scan of the top page text of course.
i like joomla because it shows a quick "digest" like a magazine in one glance, fillling the reader's eyes with clickable options. With joomla you can put really interesting snippets in the newsflash and so people checking out the site can see the flashing news. Joomla lets you lead with strong intro text and put the rest on page separated following pages. So you can have a killer front page without all the text right away. Wordpress is always the sum of 7-10 top age entries, (and then people complain about too much text anyway).
