[Joomla] Server/Template problem

    Hi all,

I recently changed websites hosts for my site. The transfer was smooth and effective. The site runs 100 times faster now.

However, strangely, the content that used to appear in the middle of the page now appears half way across the right hand panel, overlapping the content on the right, making the site messy and unreadable. It actually appears the content has become part of the footer module...and the footer is appearing under the menu.

When using any other template, the content appears to appear below the left hand menu bar, which is a totally different position all together.

The only change has been the transfer in server.

Can anybody help in anyway rectify my unusual template shift?!

    Many thanks in advance.

    andy

Go and upload your template files again. It sounds like they may be corrupt. Compare the template index file from the server to the copy you have on your computer. There's a good chance that's where the problem is.

You could also try this website:

Maybe some different in PHP version? or something in Php.ini that changed..
Does the actual content ( source of web page ) look the same?

Thanks for your replies...after reading these I reinstalled the template files. And now the content is central (maybe it was corrupt?!)
However now....the further bad news...the articles appear with only around the first paragraph (short chunk of text) and the rest of the entire article has vanished!!!
Further problems backend and front end is whenever you attempt to add a calendar event, or change an exsisting database record nothing happens when you press save. I mean literally nothing. No error message. No hanging. No nothing. Update/Save buttons frontend and back no longer seem to do anything.

I fear the worst...I may have to scrap the site and start again!!!

I don't think you need to scrap it. What ftp program are you using? Have you tried Filezilla? http://filezilla-project.org/

When your getting part of your article to show it sounds like you have it set to just show the intro on the main page. Is there a link below the article that says you can view the whole story? I would say go in the adman backend, go to your article and check the parameters and it should say only show intro text on main page. Just change that.

You say when you hit save nothing happens. Just sounds like more files are corrupt. Just reupload the files again. Reuploading won't hurt anything.

    Good luck

Hey, thanks for the reply...No it's not showing just the intro text...settings are all good backend. It's actually cutting in halfway through words and sentances...sometime only a sentance long, sometimes as far as a paragraph. When you go in at the backend of Joomla and you bring up some content items you can see in the 'intro' box and the 'main article' box below the text is disjointed, missing and basically devoid of the original content in both boxes...so it's definately not just the intro text showing.

Im using Plesk to manage the files on the domain. I normally use filezilla, but my new host has installed Plesk which is new to me. I may switch back though.

If I re-install Joomla again, are you sure this will not cause any harm? Also, what is the very best procedure to ensure this is done correctly without any corruption?

How about all of my independant components and mambots etc? I noticed the problem first on an Events calendar component I have installed. Would I need to re-install every component? And is there anyway to save all of my settings, or would I need to reset every component again?

Thanks for all of your help.

I'm not sure but it sounds like it might be a corrupted database.

If that's the case, you may be able to rebuild your jos_content table (it should be located here: /var/lib/mysql).

    Use the command:

    myismchk -r -q jos_content.myi

I'd research the myismchk command before proceeding though.
