The stable version of Joomla 1.5 was just released. It has nearly the same functionality as Drupal path built-in to the core if you enable SEF friendly URLs.

Ohh, I have already installed 1.5 for testing purpose, and SEF urls are enabled, I think I need to find out how to generate URL aliases.

Can you tell me how to create url aliases eg /articles/the_first_article.html

    thnx

@dailymoolahdotcom, did you has advanced sef? because the calls the ioncube for the encrypion of the component.
If so, you really need to uninstall it first before going with sh404SEF.

@daringtakers, url alias in Joomla 1.5 are build from the title alias.
if you put in the url you want there, make sure you use - hypens between the words, otherwise you get %20% for the spaces on unix hosting.

Joomla has the tools to make it more SEO friendly, but one of the reasons I don't like using it is the code is so bloated. Divs all over hell. Looks like a bad tables layout that was regurgitated with divs. I don't know if 1.5 is any better than 1.0, but I'm hoping it is.

Artio JoomSEF slaps hidden advertisement links on your pages. Kanga has a modified version of JoomSEF that does away with that. I think JoomSEF is the best option once the paid links are gotten rid of.

As far as SEO and Joomla! go, it can't be all that bad. I get first pages serps on Google for almost every article I write on my Joomla! site.

if i have Joomla 1.0.12 Stable version, will sh404SEF work on it ? I have downloaded sh404SEF and i see it has loads of file, so sh404SEF is actually a joomla update right ? With more SEO friendly files in it ?
Can i get any errors while overwriting my old files on 1.0.12 version ?
