Joomla + SEO

Discussion in 'Joomla' started by mate_pl, Dec 30, 2007.

I am going to publish new website and I want to use Joomla on it but I am not sure if Joomla is good enough for SEO.
The thing I need is to have my subpages named this way: "name-of-the-software.php" + all regular SEO which can be used... Is Joomla good enough for SEO?
Are there any better FREE CMS'es other than Joomla which are better for SEO?

    Thank you!

If you want to use Joomla, you may have to install plugins like OpenSEF to make it SEO.
But personally when it comes to SEO, I am not in favour of Joomla.
I think Drupal is much better, especially for SEO.

One more question... Is it better to go with Joomla 1.3 or Joomla 1.5 RC? Will it be easy to upgrade from 1.3 to 1.5?

i suggest you go for joomla 1.0.13 as well. joomla 1.5 handles its templates differently so there are not much available templates for the 1.5 yet. this also goes the same for compatibility issues of released components and plugins. goodluck with your site.

I talked to one of the core developers on the phone and Joomla 1.5 stable is most likely just a couple months away. I've got a few sites running on 1.5. There are some bugs but nothing terrible and you can run it in compatibility mode for 1.0.1x components and templates.

My feeling is that most future development is going to be focused on 1.5 so it is better to start there if building a new site. Migrating from 1.0.13 to 1.5 later will most likely be a major pain, especially after adding third party components. Also, the new templating system is much more flexible and allows you to easily remove tables from the core output.

Themebot, I am close to take your advise. It seems more reasonable to me that will be easier to upgrade from 1.5RC...
