Ok i wanted to transfer one site to another server, i setup a new install without the test data, then copied all the folders which were needed from the webserver

    Folders:

    administrator
    components
    editor
    help
    images
    includes
    language
    mambots
    media
    modules
    templates
    seyretfiles

Once all these had been copied to my server i then imported the old database and modified the configurations list. Site seems to work except some of the link.

    Link on old site:
    http://heroesfanatics.com/cast-a-m.html

    What happens on my site:
    http://viewheroes.com/cast-a-m.html

Anyone know why this may be happening??? Seems to do it with other links aswell! please help asap

Which version of Joomla are you using - 1.5 or 1.0.x - they both work in different ways?

They are both running the same version :/, Its the static content which isnt showing, all the links are correct, same as the site on other server, when im in admin i can edit these pages which contain the content im trying to link. To show ya what i mean, i have created a link straight to the static data im trying to link, its on the end of the menu called cast123, this page should take you to the list of cast names, but it just gets an error.

Looks like it's all your links when I choose them in the navigation menu.

Looks like you had URL rewrites enabled on your old site, and don't have them enabled on your new site.

If it's version 1.0.x that you're running, on the site configuration settings, Under the SEO tab, check the settings there on both sites. Can't remember where it's at on version 1.5.

If you have the SEO options enabled, don't forget to that .htaccess has to be renamed to allow the rewrites.

First thing I noticed (cause its quite obvious :)) is that , as you say these are links to static content - if they fail its cause the page isnt there on the server - joomla isnt involved here - I cant browse to them by typing the URL directly, looks like a server issue to me, not a Joomla one at this stage - first thing to do is be able to browse to the pages directly ir not from the Joomla menu system, then check that the joomla links are pointing to the correct path

    Not a problem.

If you're having troubles writing to your config files however, it may be a permissions issue on your host. Glad that it's working now however.
