If your goal is mainly to display content, put up a beautiful looking site quickly, or only offer users limited interactive functionality via an informational website, WordPress will work well. :)

I would choose WP over Joomla anyday. I don't agree that "powerful sites use Joomla"... Joomla is also used by spammers.

Wordpress would get my nod for website flipping. I can have a WP site up and running within an hour, and anything I flip normally doesn't need a full blown CMS like Joomla.

Also keep in mind your target audience for the flip, most folks that buy the sites are either a) already familiar with WP or b) not scared by its interface.

Great point... I've gotten some strange and fearful looks when people navigate through the Joomla management interface. It doesn't seem very intuitive, at least compared to WP.

Most people will go for wordpress for easy use but for most guru, enthusiast and serious web programmers will surely go with joomla for the following reasons:
    1. Flexibility, because of being opensource
    2. Power, because of its plugin, components and templates
    3. User friendliness, because of its interface.

    :)

Is Drupal really that far behind that it's not worth mentioning here?

I've used Drupal quite a bit, and the biggest complaint I've had for it is that it's a bit of a pain to get the layout customized if you want it a certain way. Is this also true with Joomla and/or WP?

WP all the way, for plugins, contant upgrades in userbility and security and above all ease of content addition and manipulation.. Joomla for us was just a pain in the ass! WP rules!

for me, Joomla can beat any CMS. The extensions, themes, plugins available for joomla are in large numbers. A joomla site can become any professional site like even an e-commerce site, and or a professioanl photogallery.

Well this thread basically proves that it's mainly about personal preference. Personally I wouldn't hesitate using WP for anything even resembling a blog, because it's so incredibly easy to use. It's also the most popular platform so it's probably better for site flipping. For larger sites Joomla is more flexible, but also more of a hassle to get working the way want it too. Of course, that could just be due to my lack of experience with Joomla. Anyone here who has tried SilverStripe?
