i have used both and here is my verdict:
joomla is bit difficult to hack into the code and its a heavy application. on the other hand wordpress is lightweight and its more powerful.

With Joomla, you can do what wonders. From shopping cart to forums etc. Too many components, directories and modules. And also the website look and design can be more powerful in Joomla. In WordPress, you can say it is more for a Blogging person, or a site which needs more frequent update. The Design looks differ on WordPress. WordPress is easier to manage and develop.
I would say Joomla is more professional. WordPress is more for starters (or if you want other user contributions in daily activity then WordPress is best).

Joomla is more powerful but Wordpress is very simple to use. If you don't know what is the best choice for you - just try Wordpress.

Wordpress is always best. Because it has many facilities like plugins and all and also it is most user friendly CMS.

I once started a site on Joomla. Then I regreted and turned wordpress. It's not that Joomla can't be seo friendly, it's just that wordpress is much more easy to use and loads quicker.
    +1 for WP

I am not a wordpress fanboy or anything, but your comments are unfounded.

To say that wordpress is for "blogging" and "small web sites", perhaps you should look at these two pages to see which BIG companies are using wordpress and some famous people using wordpress.
