For blogs i strongly recommend Wordpress, easy to use, very well optimized.
A lot of free templates. The admin panel is very easy to use.

For blogging purposes choose Wordpress. For larger programs with more diversity choose Joomla.

Wordpress is better, because it is SEO Optimized, but Joomla is for "big" portals

For a blogging platform, go with wordpress. Joomla is too bloated to use for anything, much less a blog.

When you start installing add-ons, wordpress is a whole lot easier to deal with them joomla. I have had joomla add-ons crash my site, then its a pain to get them uninstalled. A couple of times I had to restore my database because the admin control panel was taken down by a modification.

With wordpress, you just delete the modification folder and its disabled.

The editor in wordpress is a lot easier to use the then editor in joomla.

The image uploader and resizing options are better in wordpress then joomla.

Wordpress has built in SEO options that joomla can not touch.

    Can't beat Wordpress.

I do have to say, I've been researching Joomla and it has really shaped up in the past few years. Still, it's a very "heavy" program.
