I've used many different CMS.. phpNuke, Joomla, Mambo etc. Recently I started using Drupal and never looked back. Problems? Steep learning curve and I had to "re-start" several times before I got it right. Also, the admin backend can be a little less user friendly compared to Joomla. I would look at: A) the category vs. taxonomy system between the two of them (the main reason I had NO CHOICE by to go Drupal -- I wanted sub-categories of sub-categories) and B) the people who will be maintaining the site. If they are very "Techy", Drupal should work.. if not, you may want something with an easier backend interface.
Joomla. Drupal is a bit too bland for my taste. Couple that with numerous extensions for joomla and you have a very powerful CMS.
I use both but I after getting into lots of troubles implementing search engine friendly (SEF) urls in Joomla. i will be sticking with Drupal for some time. SEF url implementation in Drupal is straightforward.
I don't know if Joomla is better than Drupal but they are your best options for professional designed templates & extensions. Joomla simply has a larger community behind it and hence has more extensions and more companies building apps & templates catering to the large Joomla following. I might also add that since joomla 1.5.XX Joomla is also easier to learn
joomla is a bit more eye candy so i side with that. i tried drupal and its definitely FASTER on the same server. what does it mean when you say scaleable?
Joomla definitely has a steep learning curve. But 1.5 is easier than 1.0. Tons of great extensions available, too.
stephengames Those are some great Joomla templates on your site. You develop them yourself? Thanks. bartolomo
joomla for me is much easier to use, it's almost intuitive. I got lost in drupal the first time and never tried again
Yes, my team develop them. I have five staff on our development team. The most of our work is base on CMS (Joomla the most). And we created templates for templatesquare also.
For us, build drupal site or joomla site is same, the effort not different. Just our Joomla client outgrow our drupal client. We can say 20:1. Base on some articles on internet, they say Drupal more faster than Joomla, but never test it and not sure if there are any tools to test it.
I have found that the 3rd party support for Joomla is the biggest reason for using it. I have many joomla sites that use multiple components and modules.
