Hi can u suggest which one would be better... i was thinking of joomla... though i do not have much experience with PHP programming i just know the basics.... would i be able to catch up with Drupal? Or does it has a very steep learning curve?
hello it has the ability to register and maintain individual user accounts, administration menus, RSS-feeds, customizable layout, flexible account privileges, logging, a blogging system, an Internet forum, and Drupal has designed to allow new features and custom behavior to be added by third parties. For this reason, Drupal is sometimes described as a "Content Management Framework" Although Drupal offers a programming interface for developers, there is no need to know programming for basic website installation and administration and drupal can run on any computing platform that supports.
Drupal is not hard as what people think, if they know how to use it. Here a good tutorial Drupal Intro to Drupal: Build a Simple CMS to start learning Drupal.
i have seen that drupal sites rank better in search engines... correct me if i am wrong... i guess the code is written more SEO friendly
Just ask yourself one simple question, - "how secure do you want the site to be?" With that I mean, do you like having your site hacked and defaced, do you like restoring from backup, do you like getting into trouble with your hosting provider because your site was hacked, do you like having your server highjacked and used as a spam mail server, or used in a DDOS attack,,,, the list goes on and on. If having your site hacked turns you on, your gonna love joomla. If you want your site secure, go with drupal. The security issues with joomla are too many to list here. They start with a relaxed attitude towards security from the joomla community, all the way to insecure modifications. Drupal on the other hand has a reputation for its security. Drupal is also used by some fairly large commercial sites.
'Learning Drupal' is 30% "WTF do they call it taxonomy?", 30% "What you mean I have to download that as a module?" and 30% "WTF did they place that setting over there!?" ...once you get used to it, it's pretty slick : )
My flagship is build over Joomla. I do not agree that Joomla is not SE friendly. It is even better than Drupal if we talk about modularity and SEO. Security is another issue, however - you can add captcha images everywhere, you can hide your admin are and you can encode or protect hotlinks and home dir. I choose Joomla because flexibility.
I would say 'Drupal', Because - Clean code - Flexible - Don't come in your way, and let you develop the site, the way you want. - Popular amongst developers - SEO friendly - Custom content type and more using CCK and VIEW modules - Lots of other reasons. Joomla is also a great CMS, But I prefer Drupal.
I would suggest drupal, although both are great. Download a free drupal template install drupal and upload the theme and your in business.
for security: drupal for modules: joomla You must center in for what purposes you want to use the script, then you can take a better choice.
