Joomla or Drupal? Planning to setup a new website!

Please suggest which among the two is best?

I have worked with Drupal but not with joomla.. Please suggest how to go abt it..

It depends on what you want to do, and how easy it will be for you to do so. You said you have worked with Drupal if you're satisfied with it, then stick with what you know, otherwise you can give Joomla a shot, you dont know unless you try right?

 

Security wish I found there are less issues with Drupal than Joomla..

I will suggest you to go for Drupal.

 

Drupal is the more extensive CMS. As one poster said, we do not know what you want to do with your site yet.

If you are the programmer type ( like it ) then Joomla will be easy for you.

If not the programmer type ( dont like it ) then choose Joomla or even
Wordpress.

If you like it, get it set up on your own box and have at it.

 

I personally prefer using WordPress for most of my sites, see whether you can use it or not. Between Joomla and Drupal, I'd suggest Joomla because of the themes and the support available. But it really depends on your needs.

 

I want to integrate my custom developed tools into it and make it available on subscription basis..

I found that installation of any new modules/components/templates is DAMN easy with Joomla with just an upload in admin panel, But Drupal, we have to really upload them using FTP and then in the admin panel install it !!

And Creating static pages like Privacy Policy, about us is easy with Drupal.. But in joomla, we have to Create Sections, then category then Page etc., Phew!! This makes me tired..

I really dont need sections because, my pages are not narrow in category..

 

If your modules are written in PHP, it should be no problem to upload them into Joomla. As you said, it is two steps with Drupal.



You can still create a static page on your site and put a link to it on any page or module position in Joomla with menus. You will not need to go through the sections and categories. But the page will look different from the rest of your site. That can also be fixed, but again, more work.

 

I like and use Joomla and Wordpress. A couple things I don't like about Joomla is the upgrade path, the fact that there is not commenting system built into the core, and you can not assign an article to multiple categories.

I wish there were a simple way in Wordpress to disable the time/date stamp feature than I'd use it even more as my choice for small CMS sites.

The ability to move data around with Joomla via the module interface is very powerful. I chose not to get in bed with Drupal because at the time I was evaluating CMS's they were in a state of flux. I've seen some great sites done with Drupal.

 

Use wordpress, if not, use drupal

 

Joomla is more complex as compare to drupal if u have experience why u want to switch to joomla.

If for learning purpose then U can give a try..

 

If you want to play the game easily,then go for Wordpress.
If you are a hard hitter,then go for Joomla..
But DRUPAL,a NO-NO !

 

Why is drupal a no-no?

 

As discussed, Joomla is a little more complex than Drupal. Stick to Drupal unless you want to learn something extra.

 

Drupal is fantastic. I've been in awe once I started getting into more of the modules (especially the location/mapping/gps one) but I will admit... Drupal has a steeeeeeep learning curve. Be prepared to spend a long time researching. It's taken me 6 months to get my site about 80% of where I want it to be.

 

Joomla is complex, but the interface is clean!! Themes are more!!

Drupal is easy to understand.. But there are too much of things everywhere.. Example: Edit button on the main pages .. and if you click edit, there are a lot of information available to change..

However, I have one site with Drupal and 2 With Joomla(setting up)

 

I think jomla is best since we can learn joomla easily.It has large developer base than drupal.Your site looks eyecandy in Joomla than in drupal

 

Joomla has big security issues. There is a security hole being exploited every month. Use it unless you have time patching.

 

Joomla! they updates the CMS one's a month. and exists a lot of modules / plugin for this cms.

 

I heard that Drupal is consuming a lot of memory but does anybody knows how heavy it is compared to J00MLA? I have a few high hits J00MLA sites and I have to buy dedicated server for each site.

 

NO. Drupal is way lighter than Joomla

If you want to choose between the two you should look at modules for both cms systems and see which system has modules to do what you want.
