    Hi,

I'm used to joomla modules where I could easy enable and disable stuff and also I could put them on the (left and right)sidebars, users and all custom locations. what is the is the alternative of modules in wordpress? I think its widget, but I only know that it is limited to sidebar. Am I correct?

    Thanks!

Widgets are kind of like modules as in you can disable them and use them to modify the content in your side bar. Plugins allow you to add functionality to your website. Go to plugins/add new and then type something into the search box and search for the functionality you wish to add.

That is one of the strengths of Joomla as a CMS whereas Wordpress is a Blog Platforum that doesn't have that ability. You can hard code, use widgets or php to create tools to place content, but you just can't toggle on and off like Joomla.

You can expand wordpress almost endlessly with plugins and toggle them on and off. I find Wordpress to be a much simpler platform for beginners.
