Hello all, I am trying to eliminate all content duplication from a very large website at www.themariobros.net Copyscape is detecting lots of duplicate wording on each page - but do you know what it is? It's all the text from my massive amount of Joomla menu's thats being detected as duplicate, so it thinks thats content duplicated 1.6k times within my own site! Any idea on what I can do to not have my menu links considered duplicate content? My site got completely destroyed by Panda,Penguin update removed from the very top, to practically unlisted. I've been trying to bring it back for over a year, and still nothing. I am running Joomla 2.5 fyi.
Would it help if I made my BLOCK titles for example MEDIA, FAN STUFF, ONLINE GAMES into main menu items, and found some sort of addon so it only expands to show the submenu items beneath them once clicked?
When they say that a site has internal duplicate content issues, they normally mean that, for whatever reason, the same content gets listed under multiple URLs or versions of URLs, and Google is not always able to make sense of that. I have never seen that result in a major penalty, though. I mean, if you site used to rank well before (with the same structure), I doubt that the reason for the penalty was duplicate content. But you can read this blog, it's about hiding pages from indexing and dealing with duplicate content. BTW, you're bringing up more than one issue in one thread. Whether you site is manually penalized, or hit by Penguin, or by Panda or both is another question altogether. It's possible that duplicate content has nothing to do with it. But it's good to clean up anyway.
