In three hours or so they will announce new name. This is the group split from MIRO over copyright (or things like it, not so sure).

    Anyone watching this development?

Site doesn't work for me... also, why wouldn't they say anything on the normal Mambo website?

Because the owners of the normal Mambo website (Miro) have fallen out with the break-away developers.

I can see www.joomla.org just fine. I went through the whole site and I have to say I'm really excited. Just can't wait to get my hands on it!

If you take a look at the Roadmap it seems they'll be introducing (finally) some ACL enhancements. It will finally be possible to build a proper community with Joomla.

Even better, sites will be SEO-able when they get the 508 compliance in place, sometime in 2006 :(. Well, at least it's september!

Crap name, great system. I guess we'll get used to it!

It'll be interesting to see how many domains are registered today with Joomla in the url!

Funny name :D ...but suppose everyone will get used to it eventually. At least there're not too many existing SERPs cluttering the name, so they can easily measure recognition and adoption of Joomla. As stated on OSM, they also had a hard time actually finding a suitable name where the domains were still available... the announcement was in fact delayed until they could secure the joomla.* domains for the core development team.

As for the search engine optimized URLs support, that's being taken care with this project, based on the former Xaneon Extensions for Mambo component:

There appear to be some "politics" involved getting the SEO support into the Mambo/Joomla core itself; read the links & forum discussions at the article I posted earlier; basically, the situation is that one of Joomla's main developers is selling a commercial SEO add-on, so there's not much interest on their part in integrating an open-source solution out-of-the-box.

But you can have SEO support right now through free third-party add-ons such as 404SEF or Xaneon Extensions (recently renamed OpenSEF). They are installed like any other Mambo component. Just do some research on the Open Source Matters forums ;)

thanks for the tips! appriciate it. I have been looking for this SEF.

As per as politics, I sensed it on Mambo itself (before split). That component was given special visibility in forum.

By the way, I am still not clear what was the reason for split, both parties has their claims

They are offering the current release of Mambo as Joomla. The impression I get is that they are working as fast as possible to get something quality out. Inorder to steal mambo's thunder it needs to be better.

I think people will be skeptical about going wild on registering joomla domains
