Joomla is annoying me.

I'm new to Joomla and this has been the most frustrating experience in a long time. It's extremely confusing. So I have some questions that I need to ask.

    1) How the hell do I put content on the front page?

    2) How can I change my websites title so I can have keywords in it instead of " Sitename.com - Home "?

    3) How can I make the published date not show up?

I'm used to having an html website and simply adding my main content on each page. Joomla is nice but it's really pissing me off.

To chose which content has to be shown on home page go to content manager, else look at sidebar while writing it.

To change the look................ of frontpage go to frontpage component settings

    www.mysite.com/administrator/index2...nutype=mainmenu&task=edit&id=1&hidemainmenu=1

See content tab at global config.

    mysite.com/administrator/index2.php?option=com_config&hidemainmenu=1

For second question use any SEFcomponent like 404sef

i usually run it on a local server first
play around with it ( this is the way i learnt CSS )
and if i make a mistake i just delete and start again

actually i use this as another way to back up my template, html and CSS info
just zip the local site template folder then upload it to your site server
no need to remember what CSS or html change you made months ago
and its all ready to go

Joomla is too complicated for me and just not very flexible unless there's something I don't know.

I think it looks good but I also got really confused when I tried to use it so I gave up!

Maybe when I learn a bit more Ill try again but my attention span seems a bit short at the moment. :)

Drupal seemed a bit easier for me but not as many templates.

dont give up on joomla..eventhough it's a little bit complexe and confusing to understand, but dont forget that if you finally manage to master it, believe me, you can do a lot of things with joomla..so do try and error until you can master joomla.

If anybody would be interested, I'm looking for a few testers to use my site for free and give me their opinion.

It has video tutorials on setting up a site from buying the domain name to installing and configuring Joomla.

I need to know if I've covered everything, and if the site is easy to understand.

PM me if you'd like to be a part of this.

    1) Do what ultratut said, you just choose any of your content items to be your front page, then you can use Frontpage Manager on the first screen you see after you login to get to it quickly.

    2) There's no easy way to do this with a standard installation - the "Home" part is taken from your first menu item, so if you change your first menu item name (see - menu/main menu) you will change that word, though obviously you can't really have more than a couple of words so that might not be your best option. You can also install a component like jpromoter which allows you to edit the title and other meta tags for individual pages, including the front page.

Or, perhaps a little easier, you can make a copy of your sites template, make sure you edit the template detail files and give it a different name, rename the folder and alter the link to the css file (sounds worse than it is as I type it out but takes minutes really) and remove the header information in your template's index.php and put your own information you want in there for the front page... then upload this new, almost identical template and go to site/template manager/site templates - check your new template and click the assign button and assign it to your Home menu item.

    3) Again do what ultratut said, it's in configuaration under content.

ionCube is an encryption software that allows a programmer to protect his files. You can get your host to install ionCube loaders on your domain for you, just ask support. It's just a few files you place in your directory, that allows for the files to be executed.

Use a better component instead that doesn't have encripted/obfuscated files, like Artio Joomsef for instance.
