I am just a beginner to learn joomla and using http://www.buildajoomlawebsite.com free tutorials to build my first site. I am using www.ipage.com as my hosting company. My question is , in their lesson they teach us that in order to install joomla we first have to download joomla from joomla website, then extract it and then upload the files to our server using ftp. But , there is button in my web hosting company , by clicking which its says that its install Joomla (I had already click it and the joomla is installed) My question is , Did my joomla is installed using that button OR i must have to manually install it using ftp method.
Most hosts offer fantastico with their cpanel which is a way for you to install things such as Joomla with just a click of the button. Most likely Joomla is now installed so you will not need to upload anything. If you have ftp access you can log in and navigate to public_html and if joomla is installed you will see these folders(just a few of the main ones) Administrator, Components, Media, Modules, Plugins, Templates If you need more help please pm me
To gain more confidence copy and install yourself. Also if you are installing automatically then check the joomla version, they don't update quickly.
I'm with glamourshades, the rocket launchers are really perfect for beginners and you will be more confident by using these by yourself instead of your host fantastico auto install...
the advantage of the template club s launchers is that they load content and template configuration. Your host will only install joomla. Do not forget to update joomla after you install. Most of the launchers do not use the last version of Joomla
