    Mambo, as I understand it, is no more, Joomla is Mambo.

    Mambo = old
    Joomla = new

    No real difference.
    Make sense?

    Mambo is no longer maintened. Joomla! is the "new mambo".
    You really should migrate to Joomla!.
    Have a look here you should find some sound advices for the migration.

    Mambo 4.5.3 = Joomla 1.0

    Now both are developing and expanding from its versions. The original all the Mambo developer are converting towards Joomla, so better to go for Joomla.

    Choose joomla, many developers do not support mambo anymore(component, modules)

    There is a brief rundown on the following site (but i cant but a live link in yet)

    www 5quidhost.co.uk/joomlastory.php

    But its to do with some of the original developers not liking the future direction of Mambo and starting "afresh" (using the same code as the most recent mambo at the time)
