Hi, I currently have a joomla site that needs to be upgraded. The site was built by 1.012 version and i am looking to upgrade it to the 1.015 version. Read the tutorial on siteground and i tried to install this patch: Joomla_1.0.12_to_1.0.15-Stable-Patch_Package.zip. However when i extracted it in my Cpanel, i got a long list of the process but when i refreshed my joomla backend, it still says 1.012. Going through a similar post on the joomla forums, i found one of the poster saying that all i have to do to update the version is to download the full package of 1.015 and overwrite the files on my server. Will this work and will my site functioning/layout get affected? My second problem is that i need a plugin that will automatically upload the articles that are sent to me through ftp. I read that there is a similar plugin for wordpress or such a plugin can be custom made...is there such a plugin for joomla. The files are sent to me through ftp and it is not a rss sydication...any help will be appreciated
In cpanel do you not have the fantastico installer to upgrade from 1.0.12 to 1.0.15 for you? Otherwise upgrading to the FULL 1.0.15 package is certainly an option. As long as you haven't hacked any core files you should be OK to overwrite them, otherwise you'd have to recode any changes. I'd advise that you backup your current installation by copying all your files and backing up your site's database and do your upgrade at a time when your traffic is quiet. If anything untoward happened with the upgrade then you'd just restore your old files and db.
BACKUP And try ;-) And test. And keep the backup just in case an error pops in after few days by a random user who clicked something that you never clicked.
