Hello All, We are looking to develop a directory site here in Australia and think that a Joomla deployment may be fit for purpose, but Im concerned that we may outgrow the application. The directory will display multiple profiles. We are wondering if people have had any success with Joomla for similar deployments and can provide any advice to this effect. At a very high level, required functionality via modules would include: a. Ability for admin to approve new profile content with a yes/no. If yes then profile goes live/ is viewable by visitors. b. Facebook account login authentication c. Paypal payment integration for each approved profile. ie: customer applies/fills in their profile info, enters payment via paypal, admin approves, profile goes live. d. SEO plugins such that admin can set title tags, meta tags, URLs etc etc e. Other plugins suitable for a directory site. Any recommendations? Any feedback is good feedback! Thanks all, John
I think that is great idea to begin with, though i may not be of any help as i am a joomla newbie but please do post how far your project has reached
Here is the demo website using JV-LinkExchanger component www.onlinesitesdirectory.dsimi.net but it has not facebook authentication. For SEO you can use sh404sef component.
Hey John Im sure you will be able to complete your project with joomla and sobi2. This is a site i created a few weeks ago for accommodation listings in southern africa. www.sleepcheap.co.za
Joomla stand alone is not good for directory, you will have to install some 3dp components. Mosets tree is directory component and there are also some CCK components that can fulfill this task like Mighty Resources, Zoo, K2, and others. The easier solution is to use some specialized script like eSyndicat for example.
the only really good example of joomla as a directory in my honest opinon is the extension pages at extensions.joomla.org. this is a dynamic component and you could probably do almost anything you want with it - mosets tree. Other than that, there isn't a whole lot. CCKs are taking off, but have a ways to go in joomla.
