if u want, u can install free templates from various joomla websites such as siteground, joomlashack etc etc...if u want to learn how to design a template, then there is a good tutorial at compassdesigns.net
1st, download a theme, (ill assume youll want to download than create your own template. (theres a nice template generator over at joomlashack by the way. ) 2nd. installing for joomla 1.0.x, log in to back end, look for installers, then templates. for 1.5, just look for extension>>install/uninstall, you dont have to choose template, it will automatically detected as one. 3. enable it.

Why did you install Joomla in the first place? What attracted you to Joomla? Often what attracts us is the look and feel we want and like. If you know of a site you like you can look at the source code and see the template in use. should look like this h**p://sitename.c0m/templates/rt_versatility_iii/css/template_css.css. Once you find the template name, in this case rt_versatility_iii, you can get it and have the look and feel that attracted you to Joomla in the first place. Best of luck on your journey into Joomla. I'll typically browse the free templates and find one close. Then I'll hack it a bit to tweak it to my liking. That being said, my main template on my golf site is all built from the ground up.
