If one already has a new website and want to use Joomla for content creation only to add content, can we do that?

No offense, but your question is stupid. I don't see why someone wouldn't use Joomla if he wants so? Joomla is free. So, if you want to add content with Joomla, do it.

EDIT: Hmm, I might have misunderstood your question. You may be referring to that you already have a web site, but just want to use Joomla to add content. In that case, I think that is impossible. However, you can modify/create joomla template that will be the same as the one you have now on your static web site, so that you have full joomla functionality.

Yup, Bob_Mill is right. You can't just add a bit of CMS here and there - you have to go all or nothing.

basically you already have a site created. However most likely if you switch over to joomla, you will be glad you did. what is the url for your current website ?

joomla can create almost any type of website, witht the right comonent/modules.

I have 7 sites created in joomla, pm me if you have questions you need answerd or you need help
