Joomla Blog vs. Wordpress Blog...hmmmm

I'm posting this because i need advice on choosing the blog platform for my site. Obviously, choosing wordpress to do my blog has all the blogosphere benefits which would really help to get my friend and i's blog off of the ground.

The blogosphere is my main concern because i can't currently claim our blog in technorati....I can't put the cool rss latest post on this digitalpoint forums, i can't do alot of things that would be nice to be able to do i guess.

On the other side, i want our blog to be unique and using joomla i can do things on the site and control elements of each page that is simply impossible to do in wordpress.

I feel that its sad that i may sell out by migrating to wordpress and making our actual blog a bit less cool in the long run for the sake of being a more integrated part of the blogosphere.

    At the same time

...I wander how important it is to be a part of the blogosphere right now anyways. Looking at features of wordpress like trackbacks, pings, being in the wordpress blog directory...

I notice that most blogs use nofollow tags on all this crap anyways so to me its useless. Apart from seo value these things could provide, casual internet browsers rarely pay attention to trackbacks and such...so traffic from them isn't a big deal.

    Points for Joomla Blog

-Our blog has visual blog functionality that readers recognize as a blog

-Our blog design is more unique than typical wordpress layout

-I have alot more control over where and how i want ads to appear and its simple to control in backend administration

-The ability to expand blog posts is unlimited. I could do a blog post using the blog component we have installed, and internally link to unlimited pages within the joomla default article system...thus creating potentially intricate blog posts without super long pages and also increasing seo.

-Can easily integrate a good forum into the template of our blog in the future.

-Can easily integrate shopping cart in the future if we want to sell apparel

    Points for Wordpress Blog

    -Blogosphere

    -Familiarity?

-More simple to use for my partner and potential future writers

....Anyways, i'm racking my brain over whether to migrate this blog over to a wordpress instalation. It would have a similar feel, but many aspects of what we want to do with the blog and the design of the blog would be comprimised....

    Any good advice or thoughts?....

i agree that wordpress is easier to manage as a simple blog but when you start adding things on to wordpress it becomes alot more complicated than using the joomla backend. My main concern is visibility in the blogosphere.

With wordpress you can do most of the postives you put in joomla.. You can make the add appear ANYWHERE in the page, just go to appearance - edit theme and then find the page you want and change the code ( you need some html / code knowladge )... Theirs literally a million themes out there for wordpress, so it will look original if you pick a theme that is not overly used.

    Wordpress without a doubt

Wordpress is so simple to use, the plugins are just a great addition to what to expect. The customisation of Wordpress is pretty damn good, a dream for dev's.

Whoever said Drupal is good deserves to be shot!

If you use Joomla, it's not so easy like WP to use a rss feed with feedburner because Joomla only uses feed in the index of the site but not in internal pages, you will need a component.

Exactly what I would have posted. Stick with wordpress if you're a big n00b but otherwise joomla would work great for you.

    I agree.

They both have their positives and negatives.
WordPress is just easier to manage, that is why people use it more often than Joomla.

I think i'm going to stick with joomla! I have found that i can still be apart of the blogosphere simply by using feedburner or pingomatic. So now all my points go to joomla for blogging! yay!

    hello,
Joomla is more of a CMS but if you want specifically a good blog engine, i would suggest Wordpress. It has plenty features for a typical blog. Wordpress has a much better templating system than Joomla and Drupal and is easier for customization.
