Hello all, I have been stuck on this for a couple of weeks now, and by doing MUCH research, I have found that many are experiencing the same problem. Drupal and Wordpress both allow an easy way to have thumbnails that link to articles on the frontpage/blog listing. (ex: www.psdtuts.com -- which uses wordpress) However, it seems to me that Joomla does not provide such service, and since that would be VERY shocking, I'm probably wrong. But then again, one would image Some Kind of tutorial would exist on this subject. ANYWAY, my website is -- www.hitechgadgetspro.com I am getting close to launching, but this thumbnail problem is just holding me back. I have posted a post wit everything that I wish to appear on it, but in its original layout. currently, I have inserted a thumbnail (I made myself) inside the actual article, which is the one you can see, but the downsides are that it is not linked to the post, and that it makes all of the text shift down below it. again, I would like to make my site have the same thumbnail function as on psdtuts.com. I would love if someone could enlighten me on how to make a thumbnail to the article. Thanks PS: CSS fixes have not been made for IE users... sorry... FF3 only so far
neither Drupal supports native thumbnails. in all cases you need a 3rd party addon. i'm actually using a custom one i wrote for a customer exactly to make auto-thumbnail, custom fonts, size, color, and modules with custom templates for news sites. i'll soon release it as a commercial addon, in the meantime good luck, you can play with the mod "Minifrontpage" if your needs are minimal, there are also other 2-3 mod with similar features. p.s. i was surprised too of the lack of basic features like this, after all it's a matter of 20-30 PHP lines of code, it seems cms maintainers have no f... idea of what users need : joomla.org for instance has no thumbnails, they use intro-text with resized images, Drupal.org is text-only, same for WP.com
I actually got it to work for drupal custom fields and imagefields addons... so yea... joomla is definitely the underdog here but it is still pretty awesome
