If you absolutely need something that is only available in 1.6 (namely nested categories and built in ACL), AND you can find all of your current extensions or substitutes in 1.6 versions, plus your template, then yes, upgrade. Otherwise, don't.

Here is a link to another discussion about it: "http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?p=2374769"

Dont waste your time with 1.6 as 1.7 is coming out very soon. Stick to 1.5 as it has been developed over time and many extensions available.

For certain security reason, I prefer J1.6...for great supporting component, I will choose 1.5. When is J1.7 release?

Until Joomla has another official stable release, it would be best to just use Joomla 1.5. There are some additions to the CMS that can only be found in the latest version, but I wouldn't say that they warrant an upgrade, especially since Joomla 1.6 is only a beta release.

Personally, I think that it's a bit foolish that developers are even distributing extensions that are only available for Joomla 1.6. It's going to be obsolete with the next update, and then they'll have to do it all over again. It would be wiser to develop for Joomla 1.5, and integrate 1.6 compatibility. But again, that's just me.

I never use beta releases, though, as you never know what bugs or security holes you might encounter.

If your site is simple joomla 1.5 will do. If you want something spectacular, 1.6 is the answer. It's not about extensions, trust me they are all coming. Its about the power of 1.6 under its bonnet. I've used Joomla since day one and in comparrison 1.6 is nothing short of brilliant for developing advanced enterprise level sites. Its MUCH faster, Mutli categories, muli-templates, ACL....

Stay with Joomla 1.5, if 1.6 doesnt meet your requirements in terms of extensions .

Personally, Im going to keep developing all of my clients sites in Joomla 1.5 only.
I will move to Joomla 1.6 , once I see all the extensions upgraded.

Also, I will personally use Joomla 1.6 now.

!.7 is already out, but still no good extensions available.

Joomla 1.6 is more flexible and a lil bit more safety. But there are no such great templates like 1.5

I have been using J1.5 for some clients when I upgraded one of those to J1.6 a little while ago it crashed so I just re developed the site on J1.5...

But for fresh install always go for the latest version and make sure the theme you use is compatible with that version of Joomla...

    Hello Lamvt,

Yeah I agree but some of custom theme requirements don't function in the newer versions code structure...... I need to do more modifications. I think most of my clients will migrate ok but there is a few that will definitely cause some issues...
