    Hello

Is anyone uses joomla 1.5? I need to build a joomla site but I have some hesitations, run into bugs with 1.5 ou build with 1.0.13 and miss the new features.

    :-/ Any experience?

    Hi,

I keep checking back on Joomla because it consistently gets lots of recommendations as does Drupal. I have not come to a comfort level with the design and stability of either of these products. If too many cooks spoil the broth, then one can say ....

I ve been thinking of drupal, mainly because you can run many site with one installation but the templating community is really poor

It had been recoded for joomla 1.5, so it's different from joomla 1.02.
I had tried joomla 1.5 and find it's very simple for use, but lack of plugins and templates.

If you have the time and skill, build your own CMS. I grew tired of Joomla's limitations (user levels, poor SEO capabilities, etc) and features that I just didnt need.

If you are adamant on using Joomla I recommend you don't use the beta (as they also do) for a "live" environment. For now stick with the latest version or move over to Drupal.

Thanks for your post Noddegamra. I planned to follow this advice from joomla, just wanted to to know if people who publish 1.5 anyway get problems :D

There are problems with the current beta. The full release version is also a lot more secure. :)

Noddegamra: I know where you're coming from, but I still find that "Joomla's limitations" are smaller than my own. It's nice to know that you won't have to butt heads with poor SEO (out of the box, anyway) and so on but at the same time, those limitations are smaller than the fact that my own CMS would have a total of 1 developer working on it part time. Anyway, that's just my thoughts. Having said that, user levels have almost been a make or break for me, too (but then in that case, I'd just go to another CMS).

schlogo: just in case you didn't realise... they have now released the RC and are encouraging live use. I haven't used it live myself, yet, but I daresay in the next few weeks you'll find more and more people that have.

In that case I would go for something already made.

I made my own CMS to tailor-fit my needs. I also made it flexible enough to easily adapt to future needs of my clients. :)

If you have the knowlege to do it yourself (or a budget and team), I'd say go for it. Otherwise try to go for off-the-shelf software or open source.

Out of the two I prefer open-source as I often find that the community provide better and faster support than companies. :)

I personally don't like Joomla. For all of the hard work they put into it, they seem to constantly ignore the most important things, like getting rid of those 10-mile long URLs and making them SEO friendly out of the box, integrating with vBulletin and making it so that skins are not nearly impossible to create and use.

If I were you, I would go for the latest Joomla 1x series: 1.013.

Joomla 1.5 look really good, but I still have some hesitation to upgrade to it for my clients, because there are still some bugs....

I don't find Drupal as good as Joomla. The features are similar but the community for Joomla (check forum) is really great and helpful. Perfect for your first CMS.

The BETA definately isn't good enough yet to use on a live site. Only use 1.5 to help beta test it.

I tried out Joomla 1.5 for a new site I was making a few days ago, and ran into a lot of bugs and problems that weren't being answered on the Joomla support forums. I had to quickly downgrade to Joomla 1.0.

Joomla release candidate will be out soon with the final version expected in September.

But then there has been long wait so far so don't hold your breath.

All this build-up is leading to some mighty expectations from everybody!

I've noticed that the built-in SEO isn't working properly, but it works with the old method. Still good! I have an install for a new project I'm working on (libertywars.com), but haven't been by there lately. So, testing has been limited.

Overall, Joomla 1.5 is not ready for a real website, but looks promising.

I think it might be a good idea to wait for joomla to release the stable version.

yeah, that what I ve decided. I am using joomla 1.0.13. Joomla 1.5 is not really ready for production and extensions will become stable after the stable release of 1.5. So...wait and see :)
