So John Reese gave away a $100,000 car at a recent StomperNet weekend. Nice. But here's the question: do affiliate contests make a difference in your eyes? I saw one the other day where the guy is promising cars, holidays, plasma TVs and so on - obviously you have to sell over a certain number of products to qualify, so he doesn't lose any money. Do you go for affiliate contests?
Human Fact: Most people like contests of any kind. Why do you think the lottery is so popular...the dream of winning. Affiliate Marketers are no different. Remember, they are human, too. It's just another marketing tool...like the freebie you are giving away in your sig. It "draws 'em in", doesn't it? Jim
Personally an afilliate company that has to push contests to get people to join looks scammy to me, and I stay away. I'd rather they put their money into solid payouts.
It is called the FREE-BEE factor .. great step to lead them down the golden path to the comnversion .. lol I wounder how many leads he signed up to give that car away I am sure more than 100,000 worth in the long run. lol
Just to clarify things... *I* won a BMW M5 (it was used, but still worth a lot) that belonged to the owner of StomperNet... he offered it as the 1st place affiliate prize for his program. (I was his top affiliate.) However, at the event (this past weekend) where he presented me with the keys, I decided to do something nice and I gave the car away to their top beginner marketer that had taken the most action in a separate contest/program they were running. I wasn't running a contest or anything. I just decided to reward this guy and give him the car. I wanted to set an example and show that if you take action you will be rewarded for it. ~John
Hi John, I knew you were a member of this forum when I read a few of your posts recently. While there are other "Big Players" in DP, it's nice having someone of your caliber in this forum - because you are one of the most down-to-earth, extremely successful marketers I have "met" and read about. I believe the "average to better" affiliate marketer has become very skeptical of the usual "gurus" lately, and that is why they "read into" or question any move they make. You are a breath of fresh air as far as I am concerned...and, many others feel the same. You inspired me a while back to do more and more testing, and it has definitely helped my affiliate career move forward. The more of your information I incorporate, the better I do. I watched the intro to www.income.com. My mouth is already watering for the site to open. Keep up the good work! Thanks. Jim
Thanks for the kind words, Jim. I really appreciate them. And GREAT to hear that you are testing more! I am always surprised to find out how few marketers are actually testing stuff. ~John
