I bought Joel's adsense book and learned a couple of things but not much. I am fine with that. I could have made another 20k with this info if I had bought Joel's adsense book a few years ago when I first discovered adsense and started using it on a few of my websites.

I make only about 1k now per month from adsense but that is only from about 10 sites.

I could imagine quite a few of you could write such a book and make a few bucks. Why begrudge Joel his ebook? After all he is just doing his thing and making another buck. Why does it matter to you guys?

Really for people just getting started with websites and adsense Joel's book would be worth far more then its cost. How much is 2 solid years of experimenting with adsense worth? That is how long it took me to learn what is in Joel's book on my own.

Joel's book is not for adsense college grads it is for grade school kids who really need some one to take their hand and guide them.

Apert from finding someone who is willing to teach you everything they know about adsense I think buying Joels book Is a very good way to get up to speed quickly if your a newb webmaster.

I do think there is some important points left out of such books. The bottom line is to get 1200 sites up ASAP. So what if they only make a buck each per day.

    Lets see....

1200 1.00 per day websites x 30 days?? Well, that is 36k per month or so. You know a lot of those sites will go a lot higher then 1.00 per day. I got a few making 20.00 to 40.00 per day. The average amount is what is important.

People try to tell you to make quality sites. Bah! If you are a true adsense whore then eventually you will figure it out and just get a ton of sites up. That is what it really takes to make good bucks with adsense.

Lets see, On this hand we have high morals and values and we only make high quality sites that we can be proud of.

Now on the other hand we figure out that.... Hay that stupid little crap site I put up a month ago is already making $1.00 to $3.00 a day.

Hmmm... The little red guy sitting on my shoulder with the horns and the pointy tail just whacked me in the ear and told me that if I put up 1199 more sites just like the crap site that is making a few bucks a day in 3 weeks I too can get those adsense checks by DHL!

So I try to sound like a high minded website bigot when I post in the forum and tell everyone, Well... you must put up good sites with lots of good content to make it with adsense. All the while I'm registering and putting online 20 sites a day full of pages from something like article bot or cash page builder. He HE HE!

That is the part all the adsense books I have bought have left out.

So apart from getting to hang out for a week with Joel or Shoe and buy them lots of drinks and get them to admit that is exactly the true secret to adsense fortunes I will just have to try it and see for myself if it works.

Oh don't worry, after I make all those bucks I'll hire some good writers and go back and insert quality content into my 1200 adsense spam websites. Really, I will, I promise, honest...

    Hehe

    :D

Interesting post, that seems quite right. But, IMHO, not so much the multiple junk sites theory. I prefer to believe you are doing this:

    rather than this:

You should know what is happening now. Before one buys any new domain, it's in fact necessary to check the status of that domain with the AdSense team, to prevent one of those famous emails more and more people are receiving:

I'm not sure how happy the support team would be checking the AdSense status of each publisher's 1,200 new junk sites.

You're going to need to. You better start doing it now. If you wait until Google slams those spammy sites you'll never get back to where you are/were. You might even have to start over because the domains will be so penalized they become a liability.

There is no longevity in that approach. You are much better off developing some core sites that have real value and appeal. If you only chase the quick money you will always be doing that.

AVS does Joel's book on adsense ever talk about providing content?

I realized something interesting in this thread about Joel than I am guessing is fairly accurate. He even told me he would offer to help me optimize my ads on my page he slammed. Problem is I don't necessarily make my websites nor optimize them for my advertisers. I focus on my visitors. Does that potentially cost me money over the short-run? For sure. How does it work over the long run? Who knows... Adsense has not even been around long enough for there to be a long run. I do know that in pretty much any business or marketplace in the world the cost of acquiring customers/visitors is the driving force of most businesses. A site designed for content first is likely to have a significantly lower customer acquisition cost over the long run as you have loyal visitors and customers who come back over time. Sure loyal customers will provide lower CTRs often times. But they can more than make up for that in frequency and loyality.

So there is more to the world than ad placement and ad optimization for running a successful long-term web site that will continue to make money.

If anyone knows of any Adsense E-book writers who write about the whole package and don't just write a few pages about ad placement then let me know. I would be interested in checking it out.

Well, yes, in the chapter 8 "Building Content". It's mainly about your own content or content by others with publishing permission (free or paid).

I still think, as I said before, that he should disapprove much more strongly, and remove the links, of the automated content programs briefly mentioned in the section 8.9.

About the 1200 junk sites theory, I think that's not Joel's. AVC says "That is the part all the adsense books I have bought have left out."
