That is true the rankings, traffic and all that still remain....but most people who submit to directories look at the PR and if your site got slapped they think you've done some dirt and think your site is falling apart.... I am not in that group... I myself look for niche directories and high quality directories like Joeant that get quality traffic... Since I made this post...I figured I would say I do not care if Joeant got slapped or not...just stating the fact for others who do... Ok not a victim...maybe a heads up then .... But anyway the PR is back...maybe it had to do with Aaron walls post and this one....Either way Google I still Love YA... ...and Joeant I think your directory is a top notch directory....
I'm writing a blog on the matter and as it's pretty long will post the link here rather than a page full. I think you'll get the picture when you've read it.
I expect it was thanks to Mr Wall, not this forum. http://www.seobook.com/official-gen...agerank-3-more-aggressive-hand-editing-google
My directory www.domaining.in got the same treatment - PR5 -> PR3 and most of the subcategories lost their rank, happened last Thursday - did any other directories get affected? Unfortunately I don't think I'm go to see my site revert back any time soon - I'm not actually sure what the problem they have with it is
It's all a part of the game. Google editors play around knowing everyone here on DP is going to announce the latest web directory news.
Yeah, but ya know, when Google stops by and gives you a slap in the face, it still smarts. I see it as Google trying to say, "There is something wrong with your site." Or, "We think you're doing something fishy." If a site is violating the guidelines, so be it. But in joeant's case (and I'm going purely by reputation here, I haven't spent a lot of time on the site), it's just Google making Google look stupid, not to mention it really looks like Google trying to squeeze the 'little' guy so the big guys (and Google) can make more money. I betcha a buck that they really didn't want someone doing a comprehensive anlaysis of the sites listed in joeant.com vs business.com or Yahoo dir, and that's why the PR came back (coupled with the visibility from here and seobook). I wonder if Google will ever be ballsy enough to slap one of those 2 directories? I'll keep Joeant in mind once I get a site up to the level of quality Joeant demands.
