Do you think that the average Joe worries, or is in the least bit concerned with the PR of the page they are visiting? Ask your friends, who are not web designers, if they even know what PR is, or if they use the Google toolbar. Myself, in the past, I have put too much emphasis on PR, and do believe that it is nothing more than a big hype created by us, the web designers. Before I began building web pages, and used Google as the average Joe, it was all about picking one of the listings higher up on the serp's. I think Google is WAY overhyped, and find that MSN or yahoo gives just as good a result as google. I guess I'm gonna go back to the basics, I think PR is slowly out the door.
I don't put much value in PR, other than as one very small part of an overall gauge for optimizing sites. Even most of my web savvy friends (not to mention those who aren't) don't know what it is. People are focused on the information that's thrown in their faces day after day, as well as word of mouth. Most folks have no clue about many of the tools/features that Googlet offers.
Average users probably dont know and it is displayed as a green bar not a number, so even less attention is paid probably.
Very nice link A lot of web surfers are starting to look at PR just because it is there. They read it as a rating of the web site's quality.
He has this too, what's Teoma? I know it's a Search Engine, but is it important? http://www.googleguy.de/google-teoma/
