Hi, I've been designing for about a year now and I'm currently in college to get my graphic design degree. I'm at a point in my life where I would like to start working, but I'm unsure of how to go about getting a job. I've gone up to a couple of places with leads, but I'm never a perfect fit. What places should I look? I live in the Los Angeles area of California. I'm not looking for anything advanced. I'm fine with doing simple photo editing and enhancements. Thanks to anyone who can help.
Do you have a portfolio? Seems to me like your best bet would be to work for experience. Write to your local graphic studios ect and tell them you're finishing up college and would like some work experience. By the time you have finished your course and got your degree they might be impressed with you and keep you on.
Just wanted to let you know your not alone out there in the fun world of Graphic Design I'm actually in school myself but have come to the realization that freelancing is where it's at right now for us and it gets you noticed. One thing you did right was to come to this forum I've only been here a little over a week and have been welcomed and given all kinds of advice. The people on here are great and is a growing community here take everything they have to say and apply it. If there is anything I can do please let me know even if it's just to share experience or an opinion please feel free to ask.
Fist- Never do Free work… Make a nice portfolio compile nice stuff you have created spend time on it. Most everyone will ask to see a portfolio. Around here most of the few jobs their are I have seen in craigslist. You might try looking there. It is kind of hard right now with the economy a lot of people are cutting back on advertising and graphic budgets.
