Source: http://www.isedb.com/news/article/1235 Her thoughts on reciprocal linking are a complete hogwash!!! She wants to put fellow SEOs out of business!!! Maybe she has these elite set of clients who already have links pointing to their websites much before the optimization began. Why, in the name of schmoozing people at Google does she have to write an article like this???? Regards, Dilip Samuel
She is stressing the importance of one way linking through natural means over blind recip linking and the importance of not keyword stuffing to the point of putting visitors off. Im not her biggest fan but you are a bit more excited about this article than you should be. Its actually not too bad of an article for newbies despite the author. Quote actual snippets to make your point...Maybe I'm missing something
What's the big deal? She is right about reciprocal linking. Why would reciprocate if you can get one-way links? However, you are right that she certainly does not do SEO for PR 0 pop-mom website...
i don't think it that rediculous, she doesn't say that recips are actually bad, she just says there are other ways to go
Exactly, if the article has any downside its that you read it and say "So What". But to commit a thread to it is a bit much PS. Easy with that punctuation dillipsam, you could put an eye out
I think that article is 'ok' for noobs. As YS says, many of us say "and....". I don't like how she talks about 'speculations and half truths' and then you read other things she has written and it is exactly that. For me, I would just ignore that article because she is basically copying what real SEO's have known about for years.
Lol...That is a whole different thread. If you took her name off that article it would be just another vanilla copy of whats been written a hundred times. I just thought it was funny that the original poster had such strong feelings about an article that wasn't contreversial in the least. I know, of course, that he is reacting to the author, not the content.
I mean I don't really understand the blind hatred for this woman. I mean I could understand if the thread was called Jill's at it again. She killed and ate my family and now she did it to another family!!!!!!!! But jumping on the I hate Jill Whalen bandwagon for an artilce that's not really saying much is just kind of silly.
at one point in time jill often came across as very holier than thou, although she is much more chill now, many people on white boards are like that. you guys should go over ihelpyou and check out some of the best practices threads, sometimes I go over there and read them
She's totally right IMO... You *don't* need to do link exchanges to gain high rankings. When you have lots of cool stuff, people will link to you without you even asking them to.
agreed. you can spend your time on well written cool content, or getting links. both will accomplush the same in the long run, but one has an added bonus of good content that will last. im not saying you shouldn't do link exchanges, just you shouldn't have to work so hard if you have "linkable content".
This issue has been discussed in many private sessions at the SES. Overcoming the seo tunnel vision. It is much better to create quality than try to trick search engines into believing that you offer quality
If you have something that is good fun, interesting, differently good, usefull or entertaining, then the focus for getting links changes from 'getting links' to letting people know about the resource you have. The links will follow automatically. I have to defend what Jill says here. Ok so she is not saying anything new and shocking or cutting edge. But, it is my firm belief that there are no cutting edge elements to normal SEO. Let me give you a quick example of soimething that made me roll my eyes When the information network of the internet was first around in general use, it contained pages of text. On these pages were blue bits of text that linked to other pages. Oddly enough the words that were used to anchor the link were the ones deemed most appropriate to the content matter of the target page. Link anchor text is the NEW SEO fast track (headlines from a year or two back) The bulk of SEO can be worked out by looking at what the search engines want to deliver to the searcher. When you get it down to being the most relevant, then it is isn't rocket science.
oh please like anyone links to a cash advance site becasue its is good Yeah but seriosuly how much cool stuff do you have on your affilate sites?
There are a few affiliate sites that mix things up and add something unique. Kinda like some flash webmasters will add 3-4 pages of just html.
I have seen those. She uses some other user ID over there. I've also met her at the SES. She's not the most sociable person in the world, but cool enough to talk to here and there.
When requesting a link, an offer to provide a reciprocal link is an added value, and will increase the likelihood of the other party linking to your site. Do have to HAVE to offer a reciprocal link? No, but it will take more effort to get links.
