Jews are not a race

A lot of people think Jews are a race of their own. They actually belong to the caucasian race. It is therefore wrong to say the "Jews" are God's chosen people because they, genetically at least, are no different to say, Romanians (an example).

 

And the point to be made is?

 

The point is made in the original post. All I ma saying is that they are no special race of their own. They belong to a wider group of race called the Caucasoids.

 

Most of us around here know the difference between race and religion. You start very random threads qwest.

 

A lot of pwople here and elsewhere talk as if Jews are a race of their own. I am just pointing out that they are not a race but a religious group. For example, some people may say Jewish people have a particular look, but they are not a race. For all we know, an Italian can be a Jew.

Well to be honest qwest he does have a point. It's a bit of a random thread kind of plucked out of the ether. What inspired you to begin discussing this topic? Your OP is kind of brief and doesn't mention the reason behind your comment.

 

Jews are not a race, that's true, but then the term "race" is itself not all that well defined. Hispanics, for example, have been, at various times, classified as a race, and others, as now, as an ethnicity within the caucasian race.

There does seem to be a bit of confusion, however. The term "Jewish" did originate with a distinct ethnic group, the ancient Israelites. While judaism allows for people of any race (or nation, or culture) to embrace it as a religion, this is a distinction from an ethnic Jew. There are ethnic Jews that practice Judaism, ethnic Jews that do not practice Judaism, and non-ethnic Jews that practice Judaism. All are, in fact, Jews.

 

dont you pull out the race card every time Muslims or Islam is questioned?

So to you "chosen people" is the same as a race ? Speak out what you really want to say. And why you want to say it. Its obvious that you dont start this thread just for nothing, dont be a coward.

 

Samantha, you are the first and - as yet - the only person to mention Muslims or Islam. Why are you accusing qwest of 'pulling out the race card' ? You're comments don't appear to have any bearing to the posts in this thread ?

If the Jews are a particluar race, can anyone tell me what it is. I certainly didn't know Jews were a certain niche of people. For example, where I live in London there is a large Jewish community and the Jewish people seem like other white people to be honest, the only difference is that they are wearing their religious clothing. I must say they are an incredibly nice people though.

 

So if the jews aren't a race, why is it that the muslims here play the race card and call ly2 a racist when he starts posting about islam and muslims?

No, it's to do with grammatical indifference or convenience. It's a pain in the bollocks to have to keep typing 'religious discrimination' or 'Islamophobia' all of the time. To most people the word 'racism' covers all the bases.
