You are right, Jesus had no earthly Dad, Joseph was not his biological father. However, Jesus did has a "daddy" (as he called him)...GOD. God is God's name. God has many names. One of those names in Jesus. Furthermore, God is a god...therefore any name associated with God also must mean that that name refers to a god. So since Jesus as a name refers to God, then Jesus must be a god. Since there is only one God, the god pointed to by Jesus name must also refer to the god pointed to by the name God. Therefore they must be the same God. Hows that logic for ya?
Jesus did not call God 'daddy'. Oh so there was Jesus senior i.e. God and Jesus Junior i.e. the real Jesu Jesus has a 'daddy' called God, so Jesus can NOT not be called God as that would mean he is his own 'daddy'- which is pretty obvious
Actually he did...when Jesus spoke in aramaic, the word he used to talk to God actually translates better as "daddy" than Father. It is a much more intimate word that modern children use as well. Want to debate this? I have had 4 years of study of biblical languages?? Furthermore, I'm going to stop this because of 2 reasons: A) you are so stuck on your own wrong logic that no one in this forum or world will ever be able to point out your mistakes. B) I don't argue with ignorance.
Translates better?- I thought any language could be translated into another language fully? wasn't that what i was kept being told when i said that the quran was misinterprated due to translation? Are you 100% sure that this 'word' translates fully into father? A) I am not stuck on my own wrong logic, I am only questioning your logic- is that a crime? Point out mistakes, thats what a debate is about. Not being able to debate furthur due to lack of facts and hiding behind the 'you are ignorant'? You know what they say: "when the going gets tough, the tough gets going"
The problem here is that you don't know the language...any word has more than one meaning, just go look at your local websters...however, when translating, there are "better" translations than others. For example: The Word for God in Hebrew, commonly known as YahWeh, actually is a form of the verb that means "to be". Technically names cannot be verbs, as they are nouns. It also has no vowels in the original. Therefore, we are not sure that the word YahWeh is correct. we know the consonants YHWH are correct but not the verbs. What works is that the vowel pointings that make the word YAHWEH are a "better" translation than others. Arguing about the existance of God, or who God is, is not a matter of logic. That is the basis of my whole argument. You are trying to make God logical, which God is not logical. If God was logical, then why were the Jews so persecuted by Hitler. Jews=God's Chosen People=God Saves God's people Why were the Jews sent to concentration camps to die? God is not logical, there is no way that we can figure God out. If we could, we would be God. Thats all I have to say, argue all you want, we obviously can't help you. There have been many people in this thread that have tried. However, at the end of the day, we can go about our business and only pray for you.
While I'm a strong "opposer" to Christianity and in fact, any religion as a matter of fact, d16man's point regarding this term "daddy" is correct. I'll get you guys the exact verse that actually shows Jesus calling God daddy when I meet with this die-hard Christian friend. Of course, not literally in English though.
Well yes Islam and Christianity have something in common, they believe in one God. Source: Wikipedia I see, there is a lot in common between Islam, Judaism and Christianity. The interpretation is the main difference. A question, why is Muhammed greater than Jesus? Is there a reason or is it because he received the teachings from Archangel Gabriel after Jesus? Just curious.
When Muslims Say Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) is the greatest human in the hostory, they no way degrade Christ. Christ is the Holy Prophet of God as Muhammad(pbuh). To our beleives Muhammad (pbuh) is leader of all prophets according to the teachngs of Quran and Sunnah. ALso,to our beleives, Christ will come to this world again not as a prophet but a follower of Muhammad (pbuh). I know Christian have some other views but i present what we muslim think about it. This is snot an issue of debate as its based on the beleif. Chrsitians and jews have right to make their on opinion based on their BELEIFS and similarly Muslims have same right of having opinion on the basis of their Beleifs. The only thing we need to be carefull about is "Dont degrade any of the Holy soul". I have found some Christian friends here degrading the Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Thats shamefull. We can only make this world better if we offer respect to our opponents and be tolerant in expressing our views. Regards, Adnan Azam
All I can say is if God exists, I'd imagine he, she, it is simply clasping (his) hand in his face, in anguish, over how much his children are arguing about who is "better." It strikes me as almost ridiculously funny that people are arguing "no, MY (name the personality - god, prophet, what have you) is better." I guess I just have a hard time imagining a deity as rather more like a schoolyard letterman, class president, or bully than omniscient, omnipresent, omnipowerful. The gods of Mt. Olympus were a fun lot, but nowhere as near above human frailty as the God from "people of the book."
Hey north... how ya feeling? I am not sure what "book" yer talking about, bible or koran, so I'm not sure what people either. But I can tell you that the ancient Greeks saw, knew, (had the intuition?) that there was a god. Hence the revelation, somewhat a warning, by Paul to whit: Rom 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, [even] his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: ..and that warm encouragement from Romans which transcends our own puny efforts to be on the 'A' #1 GOD TEAM - and proves once and for all that regardless of what 'god?' (or no god) that you may be inclined to here on this earth, in the end, it will be solely the contents of your heart which shall determine your fate. Rom 2:13 (For not the hearers of the law [are] just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. v14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves v15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and [their] thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another v16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel The Ancient Greeks were cool, but God had not chosen to reveal Himself unto them quite yet. He decided to wait for Paul, who was a pretty stubborn little guy.
Thanks, Dead. Still contending with a massive seasonal thing - well, 5 months running now, so not exactly seasonal any longer, though it spiked just recently. But, after last night, I earned this morning's headache (my boeuf, a bottle of fun little Pinot (Rue Bicyclette) married my friends' bottles of Alsacian Gewurtz, Burgundy, Rhone, S. African Cab; plus, a great array of cheeses (epoisse, roquefort, a spanish blue, couple of others; all, brought back from their recent trip to France. Great time, but a bit worse for the wear this morning. ). You know, it has been many years since I thought about this...my recent exchange with Kalvin has brought me to revisit some things let go long ago. And your post above is quite beautiful. Paul's transformation and humility, his call, as you say, for truth in the heart, a beautiful story. I will pick up the book again. Thanks for the post and thoughts, brother.
I would have given my right arm to have been there. I just read your post and ran downstairs to see if I had anything I wanted to drink and I mean NOW!!! One bottle of Zonchera Barolo, one bottle of Tommasi Amerone, one bottle of Masi Tommasi, one bottle of Guenoc Victorian Claret, and four bottles of Liberty Cab. I used to have, oh, so much more and just a few weeks ago mind you. Then I rented a room to a wonderful gal, a long time friend, who comes from the Northern California wine region, and poof!!! All gone just like that... Now let's see... cheese.... hmm... There it is, a little Parmagianno d'Reggiano... some smoked gouda... and where's the... ah, that's it? Three slices of charlesburg??? What do to [taps fingers, thinking] Well, it is Sunday, got the whole day off and with the opening coming on the 19th this will probably be the last day in a good month... Pop! There are some things in life one simply cannot apologise for
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh - a perfect Sunday. Right there with you, buddy. Hey, by the way, knock 'em dead with your opening. Congratulations!
I don't necessarily consider David and Solomon prophets in the same sense that I consider Elijah and Elisha...David and Solomon were kings who ruled. They did plenty of bad things. David even killed Goliath.
Yeah, it actually translates better to "daddy"...and I am also reminded of the gospel reading from this past sunday if you follow the lectionary...Jesus was baptized, and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in the form of a dove, and God said "This is my SON, with whom I am well pleased." So, not only do we have Jesus calling God "daddy", but now we have God calling Jesus "Son".
You're like a broken record. We have already given you the answer time and time again regarding the Trinity to your inquiries (less inquiry than rhetoric I suspect). In times such as these, I am reminded of the words of Jesus: Mar 8:17 ...have ye your heart yet hardened? v18 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? These are the words spoken by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ Almighty.
for the same reason he got baptized although he was sinless...to set a good example and to show people the right way to live. Although I am pretty sure you did not read this post and will just post another dumb question trying to turn it back on us.
