Jealous

Discussion in 'Forum Management' started by Black Beard, Feb 10, 2010.

My forum is really small and have barely any content. Every time when I view another forum with the same niche as my site but with a lot of traffic & content. I get jealous and feel like quitting. I can't stop myself from viewing the site and check it often. Any tips?

It takes lots of time and dedication to build a thriving forum. The feeling of jealousy can be used constructively instead, to motivate you... to work even harder! :)

To kick start activity, you could initiate 'pay to post', organize contests to promote interaction and do lots of promotion to make your forum visible on similar sites/forums!

You are not alone. A lot of us get jealous but, the jealousy can be a learning experience for you/me/us.

At least you know enough to look toward the 'expert' where you can even get some ideas to improve your own forum/website.

You are on the right track!

Have to agree with the motivation factor.......anything to drive you achieve higher goals is good....

Promote.........get someone to review it to see if you have overlooked a vital component....

usually most of the forum owners are jealous of their competitors, some might not show up in public while some might, use this jealous as a motivational factor for you and try to realize what's really needed to kick up your forum, same tactics don't for all forum promotion, so find the key and you can be in the path of success with in a very short span of time

Look at what makes the other forums successful and try to implement those features on your forum but better. That way users will want to come to your site and in turn maybe even make your forum competitors jealous of you.

Have you considered that you might be right and it's time to drop the project? Not all forums will succeed. I guess you'll have to judge if you gave it 100%. There are a lot of factors to making a forum a success and if you don't have the skills, patience, good domain, knowledge, or the luck then maybe it's not worth keeping.

You might have entered a market riddled with strong competition where you're just not going to get anywhere. An example would be the webmaster forum genre. It's very tough as there are dozens of decent forums and hundreds of crap ones all competiting for basically 3 spots on Google.

If you give up this forum I suggest you start something up immediately to replace it and try to take what you learned and use it.

    ^^^Good call that.

But if it's not the case then keep at it. Who knows, maybe one/two years it will be looking better.

I have experienced exactly the same, but what I do is to stop visiting the other forums so often. Try figure out what you can do better than them and focus on building your forum and dont pay so much attention to the others. On a sidenote you can register at those forums, start posting with a link to your site in your signature.
