Go to your local book store and get a beginning book on Java :)

I recommend you to read "Java in 24hours" by SAMS....

I had a good one called "Java in a nutshell" that I would recommend

I'd recommend Java in a Nutshell. Certainly more for the technical background though, with previous experience in programming almost essential.

Simply get what you need from the net, download eclipse platform, download one free J2EE server and start ...

All books( I know most of them) rehash what's said in specifications. Be smart.

But if you have to buy a book I recommend "Thinking in Java" - the best book written on learning Java from scratch. the previous edition of this book is downloadable somewhere in PDF format

    Good luck

I'm going to second this. Thinking in Java is an excellent book. But, if you're net-savvy, you're probably better off googling for something like "beginning java" and going for there.
