I'm creating a website that has been trasleted in 6 different languages, 5 are EU languages and the 6th is Japanese.

What do I need to do to make sure the text displays correct in web browser, what do I need for my web broswer to test, can I display Japanese text in dreamweaver.

And anything else I should consider.

    Thanks

    Ian

first of all you need to assure you have that foreign language font installed on your PC
same for all other surfers - else they - the NON japanese - may see but ????????? or so

years ago i studied myself into the topic as i created multi lingual eCards
i search how the big one ( at that time - i.e. about 2003 ) solved their problem of multilingual pages and I saw most using gif/png images for the foreign language !!

that was no option for my use - i spent some 2 weeks and ended up using unicode within the UTF-8 encoded latin charset pages to properly display foreign characters ( i have cyrillic as my extreme non-latin charset included in some pages ) and that works perfectly since years for me now
see for example the drop down menue of the language selection of my LoveCards
with 2 cyrillic entries one in ru the other in bg

the use of unicode was the safest method after all the testing to assure the menus as well as html part or js text modules appear in the same foreign charset

overall i prefer a one language only solution and hence do seperate languages on a seperate page when ever possible
for simple SEO reasons as well as to make it easier to have ONE language definition in the meta tags
to better support the browsers language capabilities

hence to finalize the options are
    - unicode in multilingual pages
    - on the fly creation of foreign language gif for single words
    - permanent creation of gif for single words
    - UTF-8 encoded foreign languages in mono-lingual pages with foreign characters

there might be other solutions as well
