Another reason to stop them with everything possible.

I was quite confident years ago when America and Russia started to destroy nuclear weapons step by step, but now?
I Hope that the nations with a sense of responsiblity act to stop this successfully. Not talking and sanctions only that makes things worse, but action in unity to surpress and whipe out this madness.

only thing that might be censored from here would be anti-chinese sentiment.. Most chinese people have a large amount of hatred for the Japanese. Huge protests happened when they were attempting to get a permanent seat in the UN. Chinese censorship is rather random. I dont really have any problem seeing any sites i want to.. except Matt Cutts videos on google video.

It would be very hard to start a nuke program up. I believe they'd have to change their constitution (which America obligated them to after they lost). Muchless, I don't think America would be desirious of such. America has worked to make the whole area nucleur-free to some level...being much more successful with their allies e.g South Korea.

I was hard reading about nations that could go nuclear.

Japan has enough plutonium for something between 3-5,000 nukes. I think the 5,000 range puts them in the category of US and Russia.

Boy would that make things ugly!

The way things are going in the world it makes me wonder if I will live out my lifetime without a major nuclear incident. Does anyone have a bomb shelter? I think I am going out right now to buy some canned food and water:) HaHa
Really though it is weird to think about. If we were bombed by a nuclear weapon and only 1% of the population survived...How many people would want to live as the 1% in that kind of disaster situation? I asked my sister and she said she would rather die, I guess I would too, I'm not sure.

And they could make nukes smaller, faster, and cheaper -- with higher quality.

They could copy our nukes and improve them, and then sell nukes back to us.

The American nuclear weapons industry could be devastated by foreign competition.

We need to implement protectionism now! Save Union jobs! No yellow nukes!

It seems you keep forgetting that only 20 years ago there were more nuclear missiles and bombs as today ;)

And why wouldn't you want to live after some disaster. You can then build everything. That I find quite good chalenge !

Think about it Will. If they quickly add 5,000 good quality nukes/ demand supply will drive down the price and you'll be able to afford one or two!!:D

Now onwards, it will be very difficult to convince Japan , S.Korea and other nations in the region to stay away from nuclear weapons.

North Korea's test has changed the situation dramatically in the region.

This could very much trigger a new arms race.

This one will be different from what the world has seen before. It will no longer be about two countries competing with each other - it will be a "me too" arms race - each country trying to stay a step ahead of others.

Each country will want a bigger and more sophisticated nuclear arsenal. The dangers of poor and unstable nations getting nuclear technologies are aplenty. As more and more countries rush into the race, the probabilty of nuclear technology passing on to terrorists and other miscreants increases. Poor countries (or their officials) may be tempted to sell their nuclear secrets for financial or other benefits.

Undertrained and inexperienced scientists, inadequate safety measures and improper waste disposal are other risks.

I remember in the 70's and 80's when everyone was worried because Russia and the U.S. might nuke each other. We're moving to a model where anyone can nuke anyone. And worse, the North Koreans will sell this technology to anyone with money. Soon, NGO's will posess nuclear weapons and they have nothing to lose because they own no territory.

Where do you retaliate against Al Qaeda when they nuke NYC?

Hell, will we even bother to retaliate when they nuke Israel?

What a rational statement. You would rather have NK to possess nukes than Japan.
Why would you even think that?

EDIT: I just realized that he is from China.
It is amazing how some Chinese citizens are so brainwashed to a point where they can't even think for themselves.

Japan doesn't need nukes at the moment, especially with strong allies such as us the U.S., Great Britain and France. North Korea just wants them in my opinion as an "ego thing", they want to also be known as a world power, they don't want to have China by their side to protect them, they would rather control their own protection.
The problem with this is that North Korea isn't a stable country in terms of leadership and complying with U.N resolution and International law. The are a time bomb waiting to go off, no pun intended.
