Janam in Hindus

    I often hear in movies or from people's mouth janam. What is this. People often say that we'd meet in next "janam". What are HIndus believes about it? It seems too interesting.

    in Hinduism they say 1 gets born many times like Muslims say 1 will get born 1 more time (youm e Hisab)
    Hinduism says one who die may get born at any time may be within next half an hour of his/her death in another body

    Its might be a philosophical thing or I dont know what to say. But all this seems quite real sometime. This thinking generated in my mind after I watched TV series Lost. I always thought (still do) that we are alive in different worlds at the same time. Is this what Hindu call Janam?
