I'd be willing to bet he could find another 100 tombs just like that one all the way down to the names.

Aren't we all supposed to be clones of God? (In his own image and all that)...

No credit to Charles Darwin on this one.....

So this is really starting to make some national headlines...this thing should get interested since the James ossuary that was found about 6 years ago has already been proved to be a forgery...

Statues are made in the image of men. They're hardly clones.

The only reason it's making headlines now (because it's certainly not new) is because Cameron is behind it. The Da Vivinci Code was also huge for awhile but then people quickly realized it was all bunk.

One of these days people are going to realize that just because it's old doesn't make it what you think it is.

Ancient hoaxes just need time to be taken as truth I suppose.

If they really did find his tomb then that proves Jesus was not God. Even the Bible will tell you that. Nobody (with any credibility) doubts that Jesus actually existed. The cornerstone of Christianity is that he rose again. If they find his body then obviously he didn't rise from the dead now did he? And as the Bible says, your faith is in vain if he's not risen.

The only thing Cameron has right is that if it is Jesus' tomb, faith in Christianity is in vain.

Indeed! By week's end, we should see riots, protests, massive groups of Chrisitans holding signs that say "behead those who insult our religion," burning of embassies, torching cars, bombs, death threats, calls to restrict "freedom of speech," worldwide chaos and calls for victimhood en masse.

Oh, wait, this is about Christians. Nevermind :)

Thanks for reminding me GTech, I nearly forgot that's what we're supposed to do about this.

And here I was wasting my time trying to use reason to squash this silly little rumor.

Let's burn down our own neighborhoods too, make everyone live in fear, so's you can't even walk to the store... And kill our neighbors. Let's threaten Sweden's sovereign right to exist.

Bush should tell Guatemala they will be destroyed in a single hour.

Let's fly a stolen airplane full of innocent civilians into the Eiffel Tower. Let's raid a children's school way out in Boondock, Canada strip their kids and shoot them as they run in their well-founded terror.

... I got a better idea, why don't we close ranks like a well-trained boxer, all tucked in but with the lethal spring of an anaconda.

Why don't we just crush them - use our devastating military superiority where we are unparalled, in the air - and then fly back home that night - but so's they'll think twice before they ever fund those stinking lunatics again?

Why do we keep fighting these wars for the press when, no matter what we do - they'll just keep hating us?

That's the damn thing - the press is to this war what fashion critics are to the garment industry. They perpetuate it. What sense does it make that fashion somehow suddenly changes every spring? None unless you've got newspapers to sell. Any more than sending those brave young men and women down those streets makes. Those fucking people hate us. They are absolutely fucking crazy.

Yet the press, public opinion, they are the freaks (whoever they are because in my life I never met a one of them!!!) they are the ones who decry the tactics of this war while they govern the very damn rules of it, and worse the pace of it now. We've got too many fine young Americans dying over there now for people who hate us and just don't give a fuck because they are all so fucking crazy.

The press now governs this war and they shouldn't - anymore than politicians should.

Let the military do their thing - fast and furious. And get out.

When will the movie be released? I'm not so sure he knows what he is talking about but when the movie is released, it will cause some chaos.

@moneyspeaks, One day you will regret what you said.

Its actually now a 2 hour documentary that will air on the discovery channel on Sunday March 4. Whats really interesting is that before the airing, Discovery is set to air a show about the Masons and their contribution to Christianity. coincidence maybe?

Yeah I agree. When I say chaos, I don't mean people shooting each other. I mean that people will complain about this.

I give it one month to be debunked....besides, who's DNA are they going to compare this "Jesus" to? If the "jesus" in this box matches Joseph and Mary, then its debunked. Furthermore, Christians believe in the full body ascension into heaven, so there should be nothing in the box if it is Jesus' Box...

I just found out that the bone fragments mentioned were examined by the Paleo DNA lab above my office. In December, a couple of the forensic examiners were telling me that they were working on something big but couldn't mention details. They just said that we'd all hear a lot about it soon. They didn't even know the possibility of who's bones they could have been until recently.

The article is on the front page of the local newspaper website if you're interested in reading about the project and the Paleo DNA lab:
    http://www.chroniclejournal.com/

The Paleo DNA Lab is the one that identified the "unknown baby" from the Titanic

From what I read, they haven't opened the boxes...they did dna of the outside of the boxes, not on the bones themselves...I could be mistaken though.

Highly skeptical of this tomb lark - but it'll make someone a lot of money.
It's probably all about oil really

The chap leading the investigation also seems very obsessed with proving it is Jesus' tomb. Once you've convinced yourself completely of something, it's hard to then look at things objectively.

A bit like religion, actually :D

    Good article here: www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17328478/site/newsweek/

I haven't directly talked to anyone from the lab since I found out that they were the ones examining the DNA.

Here's a couple sections of the article in todays newspaper which, to me, seems to suggest that it was actual bones that were analyzed.

"Forensic examiner Carney Matheson had no idea the 2,000-year-old bone fragments he was analyzing in 2005 may have been those of Jesus Christ himself."

"The film claims DNA found in limestone ossuaries discovered outside Jerusalem is that of Jesus, his family, and Mary Magdalene"

"Matheson, the scientific officer with the Paleo-DNA laboratory and associate professor of anthropology, knew nothing about the tiny bone fragments he was analyzing."

No, if it matches Mary AND Joseph then Jesus was just a man which debunks Christianity and explains why his corpse was found in a tomb. But then they have to prove it was Jesus and not just one of his brothers who would have the DNA of Mary and Joseph.

The problem is that Jesus' tomb was well guarded and a large sealed stone blocked entry. It'd be impossible to not only steal his body but then get someone with money (this was not a poor person's tomb) to give up their burial place for Jesus AND keep the whole thing a secret so that the whole "Jesus was resurrected" story could keep going.

This whole thing is just stupid and a money grab.
