if we are talikg about conspiracy theory - how about giving bad results so people click on the ads (hint to make more thean the 800M they did Q3) at least for the next 30-40 days.
@sGroup: I really hope not, but who knows - it would certainly help boost revenue. Let's hope Google isn't falling victim to the saying "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely"... because I just installed the ROI tracker in Adwords.

Pure crap, I hope this is not the final draft. Do they want to retain the SE title? If this is it, then I would assume not. The spammers and 2nd rate shopping malls seem to rule.
My site which was #2 for years under my primary keyword dropped to #5 after the first update. And depending on which data center you read, will be dropping to #9 or #45 very soon. I have been reading all these forum posts for days and doing a little research of my own. I have been checking out the sites of those that are most unhappy with the changes versus the sites that are throwing a party over the results. With very few exceptions, one factor seems to be coming up over-and-over again. Links. Most of those that have shown the greatest movement downward (including my own) seem to have one or both of the following problems with regard to links: 1) Too many links INCOMING AND/OR OUTGOING that do not contain the keyword AS A PRIMARY COMPONENT OF THE PAGE THE LINK IS COMING FROM. ~ I think that Google has changed their parameters for the term "relevant links". I don't think they are considering a site for 'car radios' relevant to a site for 'car insurance'. I believe they want to see the keyword, not only in the backlinks FROM a page, they want to see that the entire page that the link came from was relevant for that keyword. ~ I also believe that they want to see that the links going FROM A SITE to any OUTSIDE sites are going to keyword relevant sites, as well. 2) Or I have noticed that sites with the polar opposite problem seem to be affected, too. NO incoming or outgoing links to pages where the keyword is important. It appears that the QUANTITY of the links has lost a tremendous amount of importance to a new level of quality. There are sites ranking above mine in the new data centers that have as few as 7-30 backlinks indexed on Google. (I have hundreds.) However, every single link on these pages ranking so well is to a page where the keyword is prominent. I am not an SEO pro, I'm just a site owner trying to hang onto my business so that I don't have to lay off my empoyees. I would love to sit and wait to see what happens, as so many have recommended, I'm afraid that I just don't have the luxury of that kind of time. I would love to see the input of others on my theory.
Hmmmm----if you are jeopardy of laying off your workers...time to start paying Google, if you are not already. I just noticed some results which give me reason to wake up in a few hours with a smile. Business will still be horribly affected- but not devestated.
I reckon in the final update they'll strip out the crappy results that seem to be appearing throughout top positions cross-industry. For two industries that I work in at the moment there's 4 relevant results in the top 10. I'm actually one of them but I do feel as though a strip has to be coming. Ive held high spots for a long long long time and now in J ive dropped slightly to be replaced with crap. Surely, they must be planning to strip it down...On the plus side for all of you fella sthat have had good returns in J3, they may be your legit positions, and after the strip, you may find yourself even higher - alternatively, if youre up there prepped for a stripping....bbyyyeeee
Matt Cutts said something similar in his comments section... ========================== Matt Said, October 31, 2005 @ 11:21 pm GaryTheScubaGuy, the camera adds 10 pounds. Actually, one belt was just for show; the other was to give me something to hang the sword off of. Harith, things are still going pretty well on Jagger3. I’m not precisely sure when they’ll start making it visible to the outside world, but I’m still hoping this week. ==========================
Mixed results for me, some KW back to page 1 but not many. I hope it's not finished on that DC - a few searches still bring up totally irrelevant results on a few slots of page 1.
A few keyword phrases are coming back for me, but there are still alot of irrelevant results above me. Hopefully they are not finished with this.
Interesting that the kw phrase I like the new results for best has dropped out of the top 200 by the keyword tracker, and checking individually, I get: Yet I rank 19, down 4 from when this all started, with the newest results...
