    Hello :)

I've written an ebook that I want to use to promote my writing services. Where can I find pictures to create a cover? Any cover creation tips? :)

    Thank you!

    :) Abby

If you're looking for free images, there's always www.sxc.hu (check the rights on each image though).

If you don't mind spending a dollar or two, I love using www.stockxpert.com (tied to the above site). You could do the same with www.istockphoto.com.

Those are my three favorites at least. :)

I haven't taken the time to master photoshop or anything like that, so I had someone else design my cover. If you're willing to shell out a little bit of money, you could probably get a decent looking cover for less than $30, although some of the pros might charge a lot more than that.

there are plenty of places to choose from when it comes to photos. Just do a google search for "royalty free photos" and a ton of places will come up.

    good luck~

Thank you so much! I found a really cool photo with a white coffee cup with coffee beans in it. My ebook title is Caffeinate Your Web Content, so I thought it was a great match. :) Thanks for the websites for photos, there were lots of great photos to pick from!

You could also get an ebook graphic image created. A great site is 'affordablecovers.com' It's only $37 depending on what type of graphic you want. You can get it in different formats eg. 'thin manual'.....'thick manual'....'spiral bound' etc. Check it out, I've had a few done. Good luck.

I use an action script in photoshop to make the box. But there are lots of programs that will do this.

If I understand what you are asking, then would say iStockPhoto.com
would be your best bet. Royalty free images.

I can make you one for free if you like, I sent you a pm with more details.

As for finding images, istockphoto, yes they cost money but you get an exclusivity, because few people are ready to pay for images.

Hey abby, I like the sound of your ebook hope it does well for you! :)
Anyway, if you're still looking for some images I recommend this image search engine... http://www.everystockphoto.com/ . It's what I use when I need free images. Also if you're looking to convert your design into a 3d ecover like the pros, I can't recommend http://www.ecoversuiteelite.com highly enough. Their photoshop actions are simply awesome!

    Best of luck!

Congrats on your ebook! More than considering costs and royalties, it is very important that you choose photos which connect to you. After all, the images will represent your work.

That's a great resource...and really cheap, Thanks. Where do you recommend buying 'photoshop' from and what version? Is it the same price wherever you get it?

Try eBay for cheap legit versions of photoshop. I'd recommend at least getting v.CS2 or better.

Some pictures at Flickr allow commercial use, other are ruled by creative commons, etc.
But if you really want a great cover check stock photos as the other members wrote. Others I like are Fotolia and Dreamstime.

If you are also looking for some ready made ecovers check: spiral notebook

After that you just have to insert your image there.

@Wizard007 - I'd say shop around for Photoshop. Sometimes you can find legit versions on eBay, and sometimes Amazon have good deals too.

Note: Photoshop is one of the most "shared" programs in the world, so if you come across a site that will sell it to you for $20 - don't buy it. It's most likely Illegal.

The best source is on this very site -- go to the digital point contests forum!! There is some amazing talent on there and you'l be able to get a fantastic, professional-looking ebook cover for $30 or so. For $50 you can probably get a matching header for your site.

Reason the contest forum is great:

    1. You see what you're buying BEFORE you pay for it.

    2. You have CHOICES. You get to choose the best design-- if you work with one designer, and you don't like what they create-- then you either have to cancel the order or go through an in-depth description/negotiation process.

    3. It's FUN to see how different people come up with completely different designs for your site. Sometimes they come up with stuff you'd never imagine.

    4. From my experiences, artists have been easy to work with and very professional.

I get most of my graphics from the DP contest forum. Check it out and see the talent.

    Good luck.
