I've submitted to over 50 link directories and can't find one back link

I've submitted to over 50 link directories and can't find one of them that has linked back to my site. Given, they are free submissions, but I'd expect to see at least a few that would add my site. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm using onewaytextlink.com for my submissions, and working down from the top. Am I aiming too high? Perhaps all the first page directories have too high of page rank (5 or better) to list a little site like mine? Should I start with lower directories?
Also, if a site that has a home page PR of 4 or so and adds your site to their resources page that has 0 page rank, do you get credit for having a link from a PR 4 or not? Because it seems like all resource pages I have seen have hardly any page rank.

Your first mistake is bothering with submitting your site to directories!

Give it time. Even paid directory submissions take time for the backlinks to 1. be approved, and 2. be crawled by SEs. Further, none (very few) of these links will show up using google.

It usually takes some time to be approved. So dont worry. Also if you have new site you will be probably not accepted by many directories.

You'll be waiting a long time for directories to add your site, that's if you even get accepted.

I think that you've generally got the jist of what people think from these replies, but could I ask what you're using to check your backlinks?

I was wondering this as well.

I usually use Yahoo Site Explorer (via SEO Quake usually) and Google Webmaster Tools.

Yahoo seems to give alot more results than Google, which seems to be quite picky in what it shows ;)

If these directories approved your link, it will take time to appear on search engines, besides the "link" command of Google does not show all the links. Try yahoo to search them or use Google webmaster tools.
Do not worry it takes time to appear.

we've submitted our site in many directories over 1 year.
and no backlink from directories, why??

who could explain it? all directories say our link was approved and we found our link on their sites but google said no.

    It's a numbers game.
Look in the services section of this forum.
I got one of my sites submitted to over 600 directories, by hand, spanning over a month so not too many at once, for $10.
Some good ones some not so good. But they are showing up more and more every week. I'm sure they would accept a list to work from.

yes it must take time because
free directories do not approve in quick so after a time when you get approved then your link ll now wait for indexing Google that page if already indexed your link ll wait after its approval and your link ll be on what page any one don't know

and i think as i am running my own directory directory submission can give you a less chance to benefit
featured links are great because they stay on top and in normal list your link ll move its location time to time

instead of bothering with directories, which will probably get you no where, try contributing to ezinearticles with a good article that will attract attention.
