My site has been up for about 3-4 years....I've submitted to some directories here and there, added meta tags, and have had my link in my sig on many message boards that I post. (in the past 4 years I probably have 15,000 combined posts on boards) I'd like to think page 3 is pretty good for doing almost nothing? my site is a Chicago photography site and when googling "Chicago photography" I come up 3rd from top of page 3.
I admit, I am new to SEO for the most part. but my example leads me to believe that just time can really help a site get indexed? I mean what really helped me get to page 3?
You need to be on the first page.... Third page isn't that good because most people only look at sites on the first page.
thats a good point. and maybe I'm a little too "ok" with it being on the 3rd page because I'm one of those people who actually will go to about page 5 to make sure I didnt miss something.
I know of a site that attained PR4 though its owner posted only one article. No backlink effort. No knowledge of SEO. It seems to me that if we work hard to gain high PR, Google does not like the idea. Google goes for the natural way.
I will even go further than that some times but trust me, there aren't many people who will do the same. Most will look at the top 4 spots on the front page and settle with what they find. Maybe some link exchange, creative social networking link deployment .... you get the point.
Yeah page 3 is relatively unimportant. You would be lucky to get 1 or 2 visitors per day from a page 3 ranking. It is a sign that you are on the right track though. You likely won't move up too much higher with your current strategy. You need to focus more on building quality backlinks. You should try submitting some articles or a press release. For a search term like Chicago photography, you should try to get many links from websites/pages that mention Chicago, are hosted in Chicago or are somehow related in Chicago in another way.
