I checked my pages indexed in Google this morning for my site www.tlaxcalahotels.com and the www. has disappeared off the search results. It was there yesterday and now if I search site:www.tlaxcalahotels.com I get no results, what do you reckon happened guys.

Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Do you have a google webmaster account? If not, get one. If you do, log in and set your preferred display status with or without the www.

Im very surprised no one has spotted the problem here ;)

Bu this is the problem Matkirk

You have unintentional duplicate content on your site and Google has moved your www.tlaxcalahotels.com domain into the supplemental index.

This is very bad news if you have backlinks to your site using www.tlaxcalahotels.com as the link so this is what you need to do URGENTLY to fix the problem and prevent it from ever occurring again.

Do you have an .htaccess file?

If not and providing your hosts allow it (and if they dont you need to leave them asafp) you need to create one.

Using notepad or a similair ascii text editor create a blank file and put this code in the quote in it.

    Now save the file as

    '.htaccess'

    without the '
and open your ftp software up. Copy the .htaccess file into the root directory of your site...

Now test your site.Currently, Google sees lots of Duplicate content (different urls going to same page)
    because http://www.tlaxcalahotels.com/
    http://tlaxcalahotels.com/
    and http://www.tlaxcalahotels.com/index.html

ALL lead to the same page.
If you use my htaccess file this will remove all of your duplicate content problems (that I saw) and hopefully within a week or so you should get some google love back and be reindexed as

    http://www.tlaxcalahotels.com/

Thats my good deed for the day :D

For more info on your dupe content problems have a read here

A site with www will sometime show a different PR when compared to the one without the www. Again this is rare one

    Very true.
But it is because they have not got correct 301 redirects setup that they are getting PR on the two duplicate URLs.....

You should not be able to reach the same site using www and non www...only one of them..the other should 301 redirect.

If they implemented a customised version of the code I put above, they will get PR for only one site.
    the http://www.domain.com

and no Dupe content issues...although Google is pretty clever at working out what is 'meant to be' it is not always right as we know :)

Hey Thanks for all the advice!!, it's weird though for this site I am doing nothing different than I have for all my other sites and I've never had a problem

SEO DAAY - thanks for your advice - going to have to try and figure out how to do it and fix it - Sorry if I am being a bit slow, but basically the dupe content issue is the fact that tlax.. www.tlax... and the other all point to the same page, thus google thiks I have dupe content?

    really aapreciate your help

Use a 301 re-direct to resolve the issue

I've noticede a problem with my www also. When I do a search on Google using specifiec keywords, my site is the only one listed without the www. Also, when I do a search for backlinks using Yahoo Site Explorer I get different results with and without the www. Do I have something to worry abput?
