I would recommend giving PPC a try, but make sure you educate yourself before starting out. Most PPC providers offer location based or geographical targeting. Don't limit yourself to just AdWords and Yahoo, because of what other people say. You might want to see which PPC providers the local online newspapers in your area are using as well. Here in Canada some of the major networks use www.canoeklix.com. The best thing to do is to try it out for yourself and see what kind of results you get. Can you provide some more information about your business? Does your business have an online presence (i.e. online store)? Where are most of your customers located?

The most important things to do while you study adwords are:
    1. learn how and when to reduce your cpc
    2. learn how to make a "hype" landing page, because when you don't collect visitors' info, you will end up losing money.

I run my own computer business also. I've used Adwords in the past to get traffic. It's worked marginally... But I've actually got more business advertising on free sites like Kijiji. Usually every time I do a posting on there, I'll get 3-4 new customers.
