Hi, I'm having a website created but to be honest I only got one proposal for my project so I'm not exactly sure it's the best. I did check the firms work, and the do good stuff, and the rate was pretty reasonable (around 25K). And I liked the time frame too (they could get it done in 70days). What I would like to see is a few suggestions as to how others might propose a solution to my website needs. If you'd be willing to take a look at what my site has to do, and have any thoughts, I'd appreciate it. First of all the site has a large user community, 200,000 user profiles to be exact. I need to track a profile for each user, a one pager would be fine, and I'd like that kept in a database where each user gets a unique identifier. The site has streaming video on it's front page, it runs commercials from my sponsers (Hilton, NetJets, Coldwell Banker) along with a propriatery video that I load up each month. I need payment processing, not paypal, the website is hosted offshore, in Panama, and I need to be able to accept foreign currency. I need discussion forums, just like Digital Point here. Several different categories of discussions and topics. I need the entire thing to be repeatable. I'm thinking one main gateway style front page and then several underlying sites based on which group the user falls into. Each group will hold the 200,000. But there needs to be the ability to host 5-15 groups simultaneously. It's gotta be scalable. With large social networks out there on the web now, I know the technology exists to have 3-10 million people visiting a website simultaneously, look at myspace or yahoo or google, or ivillage. I just don't know how they do it. For right now, I just need to be able to host the first 200,000 after that group gets kicked off in December, I'll re-vamp the entire project for scalability. So, what are your thoughts? (do you think I should post this in a different forum?) wp
This is the right section. There are quite a few functions you'd like to develope in your site... do you think you can market all of them at once? I would focus on one aspect and then add on features as you go along. Yes the technology exsists, it's not expensive at all as there are myspace-like scripts that you can purchase.
