You simply cant do much in this case and specially when you did Western Union. Learn a lesson from this and avoid WU next time specially if its someone from Asia :D Or you can try to file a report at your local police station and see if they can help you... Where do you live?

It is very terrible what happened to you, getting scammed for $2000 on the Internet is enough to make some people stop doing business online altogether.

From now on, my advice to you is to use a lot of red tape when it comes to large transactions. I personally wouldn't do business with anyone outside Digital Point unless I see money up front. It is too easy for someone to cut and run with your money.

True, there have been people here in DP who have been scammed by establishment members. However, this is more rare than the Internet in general. Just watch who you do business with from now on. If you're dealing with grands, and you're not sure about the person you're dealing with, don't go through with it.........

You could try this Shanghai expat forum. It's in English. Maybe someone there can point you in the right direction.

$4,000? My goodness. Yeah, people have to put serious red tape on big transactions like that. If the client doesn't agree, cancel it.

I sold a $4,000 projector from my site and got stung. It was purchased with a stolen credit card through my web site and I only found out a month later when the bank wanted the money back. :(

Learning point from this? Take credit card option as payment from web site.

    Col :)

I have to agree with jaree - using Western Union was a mistake. They say quite clearly themselves that their service is aimed at sending money to people you already know. As a payment processor for other types of transaction they are just not up to it, because that is not their purpose.

When collecting the $2000 the other end this guy who has scammed you has to provide almost no proof of identity so can you even be sure you have his correct details?

I wish you luck in getting your cash back.

Each day scammers come up with new ways to get our money. While it is difficult to learn about every scam that exists, there are certain things you will want to look out for. My advice to everyone is to go online and read a bit about some of the scams you can fall victim to.

Learn about common Internet scams before you become a victim. I've been scammed, but it was only for $4, not $4,000. I hope I never get hit for that amount. On second thought, I'm not letting anyone get me for that much, period.

One more thing. If any of you here at DP are about to make a transaction that involves a lot of money, come to the forum and ask some of the veteran webmasters what you should do. You don't have to give all the details of the transaction, but getting a few pointers from some of the members here at DP can save you a great deal of money and headaches.

The problem with a lot of people is that they come to the forum starting threads AFTER they have been scammed............by then, it is often too late, and why I we can give you are sympathy and condolences, that is about all we can give you.

My brother is a good example. He was about to sell his PS3 to a guy on Craiglist, who supposedly lived in the same city as us. My brother told me he wanted to give him a money order to have the PS3 shipped..............I told my brother that he was being set up.....You either meet him in person in a public place and exchange the Ps3 for cash, or you don't do business with him, period.
