As title I have a WP blog fitted to the back of my static site, what are the top five things I should do to get back links. So far I just post and submit the article to ezine. Besides the "all in one seo" plugin, which others should I have as a must.
First thing to do is submit your feed to rss directors... here is a good list http://collinlahay.com/2007/11/18/increase-website-traffic-with-this-rss-feed-directory-list/
Concentrate on writing content first. You need some 10 articles first before you should consider promotion. If you do not have much content, even though you get some visitors they will not stick or subscribe to your blog. So first of all content. And then start commenting on relevant blogs, in relevant forums, join StumbleUpon, join Twitter, and try to get one bigger blogger to feature a guest post from you.
The title of this thread is pretty entertaining. Submitting your articles to Ezine was a good idea, and it is a good reminder for the rest of us to make use of their services. The comment before also does present some of the useful sites for spreading your message.
Maybe I did not make it clear, my blog is for long tail keyowrds to draw in people searching for mortgage advice. so I am not looking for regular readers which is why I was asking about link building.
Join Entrecard. It will bring you 200+ visits each day for 30-45 minutes of your time. Join blogcatalog also. Always submit your new post in twitter. Try to get more followers in your twitter. I think this will help you to gain some traffic.
look into a viral campaign for introducing your blog in a dymanic way - hence twitter, propella, digg etc... build up friends on there and then captivate onto something relevant... let the social media spread the word... then link building is done for you... mortgages... id be looking at some kind of positive news about recovering - negativity always carries weight but then there is such a lot of negativity in this sector that id suggest the positive may help... good luck! try some meme's too wikipeda "meme" n they're these things which index blogs and then group relevant post together... peace out DCx
