I didn't drink till I was 18 and I can't imagine going back... *shudders*...it's just too fun (as long as you're careful!) I used to think it was disgusting too. Then after a few months of plugging my nose while drinking, i opened a can of beer and sipped it and ENJOYED it. It was a strange experience, but now I really enjoy the taste of beer, but I'm still acquiring the taste of wine and hard A is a long ways away. Not if you drink lots of water before and after! (and don't drink too much)
yeah it is fun, and if you drink and it has no ill effects then more power to you, but a lot people use alcohol as a crutch, they have boring, shitty, half ass lives and the only way they can stand it is to get drunk pretty often. Then it becomes a cycle of alcohol (or drugs) draining people motivation and bank account, so they never really do anything that they ordinarly would aspire to do. Instead of actually doing something, they cop out and just buy another bottle, because its so cheap and easy. But I think only like 4% of the population has problems with alcohol so I guess I am lucky.
I have seen some of the problems that alcohol abuse can cause in people's lives. My mom never had any self-control in any aspect of her life and her drinking led her into harder drugs like meth. I think my observations of her are what have made me so controlled and stabilized in my life (perhaps even too much so). Sometimes I wonder though if the people who just drink and do nothing with their lives aren't happier than I am. I am an extremely driven and ambitious person (climbed Mt. Adams the day before yesterday, work and exercise almost compulsively). Actually, I think the great time I had on Adams was well worth the effort and sacrifices I made. However drinking too often definetely does kill motivation, desire and success. Sorry about the rambling post :]
Drinking is a great way of networking whether you like it or not. I don't drink by myself but i do have at least a couple of beers with the guys i work with maybe 3-4 times a week. Which i happen to enjoy.
I was smashed one time, all I remember is some big bouncer about 6' 7 run at me, tackle me n I just hit the floor. I'm pretty big my self, 6' 3 200lbs, n I just hit the deck. Got up, went home n slept. In the morning my ancle was swollen for 3 weeks! I don't think I'd be able to do a bottle of whiskey though Grim Tops i've done is half a bottle of After shock and 5 party shots at a house party, n what ever was passed to me. Don't remember a thing.
Congratulations on your decision to stop drinking. I was completely dry myself for the last two weeks. I am enjoying being sober
I've heard stories like this before. Most people I know who said they would stop drinking after that don't keep to it, but they still cut down. I cut down when I puked in a taxi while drunk and had to pay a fine (although I had told him several times to pull over, he denied it and I got made to pay the fine anyway).
Wow didn't see this was bumped I do drink once in awhile now, rarely though, nothing like I once did. I still am smoke free though
Well it will sound better if you leave this rarely drinkin habit too... But its good to see that atleast you have left much of it.
Good man Grim. Glad to see things are getting better for you. Yes i also heard that a glass of wine once a while is actually good for you. I have been cursed in that i cant stand the taste of alcohol. My brother however at church functions can down 5 cognac's pretty easily lol. I only drank like 4 times in my life and those social functions where you had to toast something or someone and most of the times it was champagne, but it was always a sip just.
